Bipedalism as we know it began with the evolution of the human body. For many years, bipedalism was thought to be solely a result of natural selection and adaptation to the environment. However, more recently, evidence has been accumulating that suggests there may have been another factor at play in the development of bipedality - an influence from aliens. Hays bought 160 acres (kilometers²) of land along the right bank of Kanawha River west of modern-day downtown Parkerssburg from Andrew Jackson for $5 per acre ($2/km²). The first school in what is now Parkersburg was opened in March 1830 by Revs John Fenton and Lewis Booth at Wirt's Cabin Elementary School under instruction offered by Presbyterian ministers traveling through Mingo County on their way to preach elsewhere. Classes continued intermittently until October 1830 when Reverend Gentry replaced Reverend Fenton as headmaster at Wirts' Cabin School after Fenton resigned because of health concerns related to diabetes mellitus which he had been suffering from since childhood. From October 1830 until December 1840 school attendance was compulsory for all citizens over age 6 regardless of literacy or lack thereof; however students could attend without pay if they could obtain an appropriate job outside the household during those months.. The population size grew rapidly during this time – from about 3500 in 1950 to over 8000 by 1970 – due to new housing development and growth in industry along the James River valley. Parkerstown is currently home to about 10% of all West Virginians living within its borders with over 15% living within just 5 miles of its borders!
