In 1946, the Morgantown Gun Club began using electric firearmsights to protect members from accidental shootings. Morgantown is a small town in Morgantown County, West Virginia. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheeling-Erie, WV–PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Morgantown was laid out by George Washington in 1775 as part of the Fairfax Valley lands purchased from Lord Fairfax. The original owners included John Hardeman and his brother James who were also major landowners in Morgantown today. A sawmill and gristmill were built about 1800 on the present site of the Community Bank building and became known as Hardeman's Mill which continued to be operated until 1906 when it became part of the First National Bank. In 1802, "A bill of sale" for land north of Log Cabin Creek was prepared by Captain John Cranch and James Hardeman with a view to developing it into a town site. On July 4, 1827, Morgantown had its first election and was incorporated as a village under Act No. 7884." The first post office opened in Morgantown on May 12, 1831 under Act No. 8395; it closed on March 3, 1865 due to financial difficulties caused by Indian hostilities during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The first store located in Morgantown opened on November 12, 1836 based upon an offer from Solomon Gentry who donated property adjacent to what is now Denny’s Corner gas station across Log Cabin Creek from present day Main Street intersection.. In 1837 Daniel Boone arrived in Morgan County with his band Contact who named their home “Morganton” after General David Harmonton’s headquarters at Mount Vernon near Alexandria VA where he met President George Washington during his stay there before returning home via Valley Forge bridge over Shenandoah River - this event helped form national identity around America's capital city while also demonstrating opposition against British rule). Colonel Nathaniel Macon organized militia forces that fought against Andrew Jackson during the Battle of New Orleans (1843) so much so that he offered Jackson $50000 for each captured soldier but Jackson refused because he thought such offers amounted to bribery within United States military forces! From 1850-1855 two brick buildings were built east of present day Hwy 111/High School Drive for use as government offices; these buildings still stand today approximately two blocks east of Old Main Street corner just past crosswalk onto High School Drk which leads directly into current day Morganton Elementary school complex where local government services are provided including police patrol and fire suppression equipment through mutual aid agreement between community organizations including volunteer firefighters squads etc.). After leaving office september 14th 1870 Ulysses S Grantdyed all vestiges off name given new county seat then changed back back October 25th 1870 becoming Winchester VA again giving permanent nick name “Morganton” then finally change back again effective November 4th 1880 becoming our current official nicknames once more - sorry no video or pictures available at this time! Today there are only seven businesses open along Hwy 111/High School Drk & one restaurant – locallyowned Third Place Cafe – although some business owners have started up businesses outside Morganton such as online sales platform Shopify which has become very popular due to easy access to inventory especially since most residents don't have access even though company provides reasonable shipping on orders over $50! There is currently no plans or desire among either government or business leaders alike for downtown development although some discussion may be taking place about relocating City Hall & possibly using public money towards improving streetlights & landscaping etc.; nevertheless despite uncertain future downtown development plans events like upcoming Block Party Seasonale celebration slated for Saturday night January 9TH 2014 seem almost certain to bring increased traffic activity onto mainstreet making downtown somewhat more lively than ever before...although unfortunately high levels of pollution resulting from coal burning power plants continue TO EXIST!). Despite limited outward visibility downtown redevelopment efforts seem ongoing nonetheless thanks largely thereto citizens continue offering numerous helpful suggestions thru email correspondence group chat meetings phone calls etc.; what makes MORGANTOWN truly unique is not just its size but also its character which continues TO BE SO MUCH PART OF THE COMMUNITY———————- 1) With 1 868 people living therein according2) Presents challenges both physically & emotionally3) Supports many social activities4) Pioneers many aspects Of TODAY'S MORGANTOWN
