The Morgantown Rifle and Pistol Company was founded in 1859 by a group of men including George Stephenson, the founder of the locomotive company. The rifle company became known as the “Morgantown Mannlicher Company” and manufactured rifles and pistols for use in the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1865, the company was sold to Winchester Repeating Arms Company who continued to produce rifles for military and sporting purposes until 1931.
