In 1865, Huntington was founded as a small farming community by Welshmen who had come to the area to work in the coal mines. After years of being a small town, Huntington became an active center for gun manufacturing and shooting activity in the late 1800s. In 1903, the first handgun factory in West Virginia was established in Huntington by two brothers named John and Andrew Wesson. The factory produced handguns until 1964 when it closed down due to competition from Japanese manufacturers. The Wessons were also responsible for building many of the city's landmarks including Huntington Civic Center and the old Masonic Temple. Ammunition production continued into the 1920s but gradually declined as handguns replaced artillery as the mainstay of armament in America. Firearms manufacturing stopped completely in West Virginia after World War II because of changes in technology and American industry overall. However, gun enthusiasts continue to visit Huntington today to see some of its oldest firearms factories and watch local manufacturers produce handguns once again

Huntington is a town in Huntington County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Huntington University and several other smaller institutions. The first permanent settler in what is now Huntington County was George Washington who landed on Thursday Island in 1776 while exploring the Ohio River region for new land to claim. The next year, he founded Alexandria on Monongahela River and named it after his mother-in-law Martha Washington. Both sites were near where present-day Huntington would be established some years later as a result of James Robertson's land grant from King George III to Joe relief company employees during the American Civil War. Robertson had been an employee of the relief company when he received a gift of 640 acres (2 km²) of forested hill country along the Ohio River valley from General Robert Ewell at Valley Forge in November 1862. This area became known as "Robertson's Ridge." In 1815, John Cushing laid out what is now downtown Huntington on land that he purchased from Abram Stevens for $1 per acre (4 km²). He named it "Cushingtown" in honor of his friend and mentor Samuel Cushman, who had helped him buy much of his initial land holdings in western Virginia. By 1830, most settlers had abandoned Cushingtown because development around it was slow due to lack of transportation or water access. A map dated 1827 shows that part of what are now downtown Huntington was laid out as anvillage called "Bellefontaine". That same year, another map by Captain Benjamin Fenton showed Bellefontaine included part of modern-day Downtown with buildings up to 200 feet (60 m) high and 50 feet (15 m) wide including streets running east/west between blocks like today's Market Street and State Street intersections; however no buildings still remain today which suggests that this village may have been abandoned following its incorporation into what is now downtown Huntington proper about 1840s or 1850s based off evidence found around this time period such as deeds and maps dating back to this era.$ However more recent research has shown that these buildings may have originally been built within current day boundaries for marketing purposes only; specifically building # 2 on Gaylord Avenue just north/east side thereof which still stands today albeit boarded up & without any visible damage since demolition circa 1990 by then owner Development Services Incorporated

The pistol was called the Alliance et Compagnie de Blunderbusses (Alliance et Company of blunderbusses). At that time, pistols were used mainly for hunting purposes. However, because they could be fired in single or multiple shots, they became popular among militia forces and law enforcement officers. In 1834, George Stephenson developed an improved design for a revolver that featured a revolving cylinder that held 6 rounds instead of 3 rounds like most revolvers at that time. This new revolver was called the Colt Police Pistol. After its release in 1835, this handgun became widely known as the standard for all law enforcement types of pistols throughout America
