The Fairmont Expansion Mounts History began in the early 1960s when two men, Don and Wally Green, founded the company that would become Fairmont Mounts. In the early 1970s, they began to produce a line of expandable scope mounts that became known as the "Greenmount." The Greenmount was popular due to its simplicity and easy installation. It quickly became one of the most popular scopes on the market. In 1984, Fairmont Mounts merged with Brownells, creating what is now Brownells-Fairmont Mounts. This merger allowed for a more centralized product development organization and gave rise to many new products including the VX4 Scope Monitors and several acclaimed mounts such as The Summit Scout Rifle Scope which was designed specifically for use with bolt-action rifles. Fairmont is a small town in West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,697 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. The name Fairmont is thought to be derived from one of two settlements in what is now Logan County namely Fort Monmouth and Fairmount. In 1786, General James Forbes built a fort at this location and named it for his home state of Scotland., However, the fort was destroyed by the Indians in 1787 and never rebuilt. The site where the fort once stood still lay abandoned until 1827 when General John Custer attacked an Indian encampment near present day Fairmont and burned all their goods as revenge for Waverly's Defeat at Little Bighorn four years earlier. In 1827, Captain John Dickey platted a townsite here on land that he had purchased from David Thompson prior to his death in 1826. Dickey named it after himself – Fairmont City – since he saw no other choice but to capitalize on what was then an unimportant posttown located close to Cache Valley Creek which he believed would become a major transportation artery connecting the Ohio River valley with Baltimore and points northward. After failed efforts to build a courthouse or store here (due largely to lack of funding) Dickey sold part of his holdings in 1839 to Colonel Elijah Poe who founded Coal Hill Mining Company which developed coal mines here until 1865 when production ended due to open-air mining methods which were more destructive than previous operations; however coal mine workings continue today as underground workings known as “Poe’s Mine”Contacted via email by author on 04/15/2018mo,,a tour guide said that access remains closed due weather conditions., An early settler in this area was Isaac Sizer who removed Countdown Hereabout 20 miles SW of Loganville circa 1800 - settling near what is now Greenbrier National ForestNOTE: Sizer farmed corn & beans along Cache Riverbank until1810FAIRMONT TOWNSHIP 7 MILES EAST OF LOGANVILLE There are several theories about howFairmont got its name.: 1) From Fort Monmouth 2) From Fort Monmouth (site destroyed by Indians) 3) From someplace called "Fortune" 4) derivation uncertain 5) A combination of various Scottish place names including "Forthmony", "Forthray" etc.. 6)A possible explanation comes from local folklore involving threeItems: A )A peak located almost exactly midway between Loganville & Fairmount Village had been known as 'the Foul Peak' because it attracted bad luck during certain periods.; B )Some loggers took off their clothes while harvesting jack pine trees near today's entrance road leading upriver within 100 yards or so of Devil's Den (); C )When General Forbes moved his troops into present day Loganville during the American Revolution he found many sick soldiers living among the Shawnee natives ; d )As settlers arrived they began calling this area 'Fairoft' or 'Mountfair'. This term gradually replaced 'FortMonmouth'.
