The history of handguns in Fairmont, West Virginia begins with the arming of the town in 1849. The first pistols were made by William H. In 1921–1922 Pappas merged his business with Colt Firearms Corporation to form United Gun Manufacturing Company which continued producing handguns until its merger with Walther AG in 1998.
