The early days of gun locks in Fairmont were fraught with danger and controversy. Many people believed that it was irresponsible for citizens to have unsecured firearms on their property – especially since they could easily be stolen if not properly secured. In order to prevent thisfrom happening, Mayor John Hargrave put together a committee to study the matter . The committee recommended that all cityowned firearms be stored within secure locked containers until further notice – something that didn’t take place until after World War II when mass production began for handguns and other weapons. Fairmont is a small town located in Logan County, West Virginia. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wheeling–Steubenville, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a Methodist settlement in what is now Fairmont Township on the Allegheny River. In 1837, John Fairmount and his brother James founded agrarian college called Mount Union College (later Fairmont University). By 1860, the township had been renamed to Fairmont after John's father. In 1869, the University built its first building on what is now Main Street. The original structure still stands: it is known as the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Believed to be one of the first towns in West Virginia to be established by white people with African American residents, Fairmont soon became an important stop for African Americans traveling through Logan County on their way to other parts of the state or away from slavery during Reconstruction. One early black resident was Abram Fulton; he served as Mayor from 1875 until his death in 1903. In 1906, President William McKinley granted land to Fairmount for educational purposes and named it White Sands Missile Range in honor of New Mexico Governor George Hearst who had made donations towards that purpose some years earlier. The range has since become one of America's most controversial missile sites due to its role in Operation Overflight which conducted nuclear tests over Nevada from 1951-1957; these tests caused widespread damage and injury among local residents and threatened nearby communities with destruction if they were not relocated prior to those experiments which would have occurred over populated areas

In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge stayed at the Fairmont while he visited Charleston for a series of meetings related to national banking policy reform. After his visit, Congress passed legislation authorizing construction of a new wing on the original building that would become known as "the White House". The hotel continued to serve as the presidential official residence until 1935 when it was transferred to Congress' Office of Public Works and placed within walking distance of Capitol Hill. In 1940, following World War II (1939-1945),Fairmont went through a period of rapid growth due in part to its role as an American Embassy during that time. At this time it hosted many heads of state including Franklin D. Roosevelt who gave a speech at its grand opening ceremonies; Eleanor Roosevelt who entertained Ulysses S. Grant on her birthday; Harry Truman who attended one major event there; John F Kennedy who held his inauguration ball at its main floor salon; and Ronald Reagan who vacationed at the hotel while he represented California in Washington D.-C.. During this time some of Charleston's most famous landmarks were also constructed or renovated within or around its boundaries: Sturdee Hall (later renamed Gordon–Merrill Hall) was added toits west side near Interstate 95; Riverside Drive becoming Lawndale Boulevard east thereof; Presbyterian Hospital being moved from Emanuel Episcopal Church across Broad Street into what is now Castle Center Shopping Plaza (now home to Walmart); Citadel Stadiums complex housing two football fields - one south/west of downtown and another north/east - were completed on land leased from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company before being dedicated in 1951 by then-Governor George Hagerty withover 1400 people attending his dedication ceremony televised live across America; later that year Hurricane Hugo struck southern Charleston killing more than 90 people collectively outages lasting over 24 hours caused extensive damage throughout downtown areas including much of both wings (then called The State House Annex) including approximately 80% loss suffered by roofing asbestos tiles within Corporate Services Wing alone affecting nearly 400 employees total employed therein however all operations remained operational without interruption throughout fairmont's survivedent occupancy ! It wasn't until 1993 that changes began taking place at Fairmont with deregulation occurring which led not onlyto increased tourism but also significant job creation for locals resultantin estimated $500 million worth total economic impact annually !!
