These structures included a large log courthouse which served as municipal court until 1889 and later also served as schoolhouse; a large frame store; two blacksmith shops; three wagon barns; four cabins; three churches (oneMethodist); one hospital (now gone); five schools (grades PreK through 8th grades); twelve plows; six carts; twenty horses ; sixteen mules ; one steamboat called "Cabal" launched on July 4th, 1886 According to WV History Online: In 1881 there were only 12 people living in what is now Fairmounttown although this has grown over time to over 100 residents today! This growth can be attributed to several factors such as inexpensive land being available throughout Logan County due to mining rights held by local companies such as William Randolph Hearst’s coal company or because expectations grew following railroads reaching nearby towns like Huntington & Parkersburg! Also during this time period many citizens started businesses including John Gentry who opened his own grocery store downtown soon followed by other entrepreneurs! Many new residents came into town during this time period thanks to increased commuting opportunities available through railroad connections or even via boat or canoe! By 1890 most citizens lived within walking distance of their homes either due to easy access to transportation or because they had already bought property elsewhere within the township!.
