It remained part of CSA until 1973 when it reverted back to Virginian control under the new government of West Virginia unofficially called "The Confederacy". As part of West Virginia's restored jurisdiction over Charleston- which occurred on October 1st 1976- all references to Confederate States Of America were discontinued immediately within city limits while local issues continued to be addressed by both City Councilors and Mayor Michael Sutherlin under his administration name "Charleston President".
