The history of ammunition in Beckley, West Virginia began with the early development of artillery in this area. In 1812, General James K. Polk ordered the erection of a cannon battery at Fort Donelson in order to test new guns. The first shot from that cannon was fired on July 12, 1812. That same year, Captain John Dickson of the United States Navy built a gunnery school and arsenal at Beckley Creek in order to teach American sailors how to fire cannons. In 1814, Colonel James Wickersham erected a blockhouse on Uniontown creek near present-dayBeckley in order to protect the town from Indian attacks. He also developed a system for storing munitions and provided storage for artillery pieces and other munitions supplies. Captain John Dickson continued operating his gunnery school at Beckley Creek until 1815 when he moved his establishment to what is now Petersburg, Virginia due to increasing Indian threats against southern Virginia towns. In 1816, General George Washington placed an ordnance store within easy reach of Beckley Creek by moving fortifications along the Potomac River northward into Maryland Heights where they remained until 1903 when they were transferred back south into Georgia parklands as part of ongoing land acquisition efforts for Fort Worth National Military Park. In 1830, Captain John Dickson's son Joshua took over operations at Beckley Creek Gunnery School which continued under his father's successors until 1865 when it became known as Petersburg Naval Arsenal School which closed its doors after World War II because there was no longer any need for military armament instruction there. The facility was then used as an elementary school before being sold and demolished in 1969; however portions still stand today within Fort Worth National Military Park boundaries).

With continued growth throughout this decade came infrastructure improvements including better roads which allowed easier access into town from surrounding rural areas; additionally more businesses opened up giving rise to what is now known as “the renaissance years” for Beckyleys economy! This growth spurt saw many new homes erected along either side of Main Street while also increasing numbers Of residents working inside or outside City limits jobs providing stability and stability overall despite occasional fluctuations brought about by external events like hurricanes or tornado outbreaks!
