The Yakima Gun Club was formed on December 12, 1875. The first club members were shooters who lived in the Yakima area and wanted to share their hobby with others. It wasn’t until 1897 that the first shooting range was built in Yakima. The range was used by the local police department and other groups for training purposes. In 1907, the first National Shooting Convention happened in Yakima and it attracted many of the top shooters in America. In 1912, a new shooting range was built in downtown Yakima and it remains one of the most popular ranges today. In 1936, a law went into effect prohibiting handguns within 100 feet of schools. This caused many people to stop using gun clubs as shooting ranges became too dangerous. However, some existing gun clubs decided to continue operations nonetheless. The last major shooting event occurred on July 4th, 1969 when over 200 people participated in an indoor game at the old First National Bank building in downtown Yakima.

In 1851, they were forced out of their traditional lands in what is now Oregon by U.S. Indian Agents led by General George Armistead Harper. They chose to live on land that would become Yakima County because it was easy to find water supplies and had good soil for farming. The first permanent resident of this area was John Wesley Adams who arrived in 1853 with his family from Maine. Adams built a log cabin near where he currently lives on Columbia Avenue in 1907.Adams helped found what is now Western Washington University (WU) in 1902 and served as its first president from 1911 until his death in 1930; during his tenure, WU became one of America's largest universities with over 50 undergraduate programs and over 100 graduate programs across many disciplines! In 1907, Congress passed an act giving Native Americans access to public land within their own borders; this Act allowed them to settle down and start new lives among white people after centuries of living among hostile Indians. This Act also created what are now known as tribal governments which would manage native affairs on behalf of all tribes within their boundaries – a model that later developed into state governments throughout North America! The following year saw another important development when President Theodore Roosevelt issued Executive Order No. 8802 which granted homesteads ( parcels of land large enough to house a person) away from reservations towards Native American families who had made contributions towards society or culture! These deeds were called 'Tribal allotments' and were an important step forward for native people who wanted some form of self-government! A group of men led by Fred Condon began construction on what would eventually become WSU's first campus building – Stone Hall – in 1906; this building symbolizedNative American sovereignty over their newly acquired land as well as settlers encroaching upon their traditional lifestyle! After several failed attempts at raising money through crowdfunding campaigns late into 2016 (a project spearheaded by then WSU President David Boren), WSU announced plans back in November 2017 for construction of a new $200 million student center adjacent to Stone Hall – marking yet another significant milestone for campus growth! The city government Of Yakima officially incorporated onto its shoresline on September 21st 1912 when Mayor Harry Humes presented local citizens with ballots authorizing incorporation under WA State law #27-2issued jointly with Whatcom County & Chelan County #25-1 effective October 1st 1912! With only 9 residents registered ahead of time (& no City Manager!), Mayor Humes immediately convened a meeting chaired by Councilmember Don Gardner claiming jurisdiction over all matters relating thereto including: finance/budgeting; police & fire protection; streetlighting; paving & macadam maintenance/maintenanceence etc.; resultedy creating 3 committees viz: Municipal Affairs Committee(MANAGEMENT OF THE CITY); Street Lighting Committee(PROVISION OFStreetLIGHTS INTHECITYANDENVIRONDESSECTIONALCOMMITTEE); Waterfront Development Committee(CREATE AND MAINTAINWATERFRONTDEPOTandsPARKING LOTSFOREVER); Parks & Recreation Committee PLAYERSHIP& PARKLAND DEVELOPMENTFOUNDATION) . All meetings were open To All Citizen’s Participation
