This name has been perpetuated through various middle initiales used by Yakima residents including YA (1929-present), XD (1972-present) and YK (1996-present). In 1907, when gold was discovered on Elliott Bay near present day Puyallup Avenue, many people rushed out to find good fortune but few made any money from mining venture because equipment and labor were expensive compared with other such ventures in that time. However, some did make some valuable property investments while others like Henry Muhlenberg continued working on small claims until he finally struck it rich in 1913 when he sold 100 acres for $5 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in America at that time!
