The current building which now houses City Hall was completed in 1912 In 1913 Mayor John A Waddell convinced Congress to appropriate $5 million towards developing civic improvements including water distribution systems and streetscaping throughout the city center Further development occurred during World War II with production centered around nearby Boeing plants Following World War II there was significant growth in real estate prices as out-of-towners began moving into central Yakima

The post office served the town until it closed on November 30th, 1912 In 1916 the Central High School building (now known as the American Legion Hall) became the first university-level educational institution for Black students in Washington state when it opened at what is now Wesleyan University. In 1923 it became part of Seattle State University; in 1949 it became a part of Everett College On July 1st, 1959 Yakima had 3 banks with $5 million total deposits when all four were merged into one bank called West Valley Bank under newly created parent company Capitol One Corporation which also included First National Bank of Puget Sound and Security Pacific Bankshares In 2003 Western Union donated their headquarters building adjacent to CenturyLink Field that housed their international customer service operation which continues today as Western Union Headquarters Building #1 across from CenturyLink Field
