The Yakima Pistol and Rifle Club was formed in 1889. It was the first pistol and rifle range in Washington state. The club sponsored a number of events, including the first western shooting match in Yakima on September 9th, 1892. On October 3rd, 1898, the Yakima Rifle and Pistol Club hosted its second western shooting match. The event was won by John Denton of Spokane with a score of 357 out of 553. This competition is considered to be the first open-air Western Shooting Match. In 1901, the Yakima Rifle and Pistol Club moved from their original location on Second Street to what is now called “The Arsenal” at 12th Avenue South and South Park Road West. At this location they began hosting matches using both pistols and rifles. In 1907, the Yakima Pistol & Rifle Club changed its name to The Tacoma Rifle & Pistol Association (TRPA). In 1915, TRPA became part ofthe National Firearms Association after it merged with another member organization named American Legion Armory Committee (ALAC). The TRPA continued sponsoring matches through World War I until 1919 when they disbanded due to lack of members. However, they continue hosting annual western shooting matches until 1957 when these events were discontinued due to gun control regulations that were instituted during that time period.

The Yakima Arsenal was founded in 1865 by Captain John S. Merrill, a United States Army lieutenant colonel, to manufacture artillery ammunition for the Yakima Regiment of the Union army. The Arsenal became active in 1872 and produced shells for the US Civil War. In 1907, the Arsenal moved to its current location on Sprague Avenue in Yakima and continued producing munitions until 1970.
Yakima is a city in King County, Washington. The population was 54,898 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in King County by population and also the second-largest city overall. Yakima is located on the shore of Lake Wenatchee, east of Seattle. The City of Yakima was formed from part of the town of Nisqually in 1892. The name "Yakima" was given to it by General Lewis Cass as an honor for his service during the Mexican–American War and as a way of distinguishing Nisqually from neighboring towns named Simcoe, Yakama, and Sequim which were all founded before 1892. The first settler in Yakima was John Crayton who arrived in 1853 and built a cabin on land that would later be called Crayton Park. In 1855, George Baker established himself in what became known as Baker's Landing and began trading goods with Indians across the sound. In 1861, John Wesley Powell explored Puget Sound area and noted that it could be crossed only by boats so he decided to settle there instead of exploring further west or east which would have required traveling overland through hostile territory led by Chief Keesey'. By 1870s most people had left for greener pastures elsewhere due to economic opportunities available farther south including Tacoma and Bothell which were founded earlier that decade. The last resident to leave Yakima was Major Ben Nicholson who left on April Fool's Day 1907 after being ordered to move his command post from Fort Nelson to Tacoma because conditions there deteriorated following years of drought due to climate change caused by eruptionembering Earth’s nucleus! In 1899 when Congress appropriated $5,000 for improvement projects withinKing County they included plans for a county seat but no money could be allocated until 1902 when construction started on what would become downtown Yakima! This first phase saw completion of many infrastructure improvements such as water supply systems (the present day Heavy Water Treatment Plant), public buildings ( courthouse/courthouse annexes), roads (now Interstate 5) and even a few dwellings! With this new influx came new businesses including several breweries which continue up until today; notably Gold Rush Brewery & Grille which still operates commercially off I-5 just north of downtown! One significant event that took place while downtown yakima prepared for its future role as county seat was when First Lady Alice Paul delivered her keynote address entitled “A Glance Over America: A Pioneer Women Speaks” at nearby Marymount College on February 24th 1911 concurrent with the opening session of the Washington Territorial Legislature seated at Capitol Hill! This speech helped solidify downtown yakima’s status as an important center for government function during this time period thanks largely to its proximity not just to government buildings but also major arterial routes making it easily accessible24 hours per day 7 days per week! It wasn't just politicians or locals who benefited from Downtown Yakima's growth though; business owners soon followed suit albeit starting out small thanks largely to lackadaisicalness on their part regarding municipal services?!? However with more experience comes better planning skills so when another brewery opened up downriver called First National Bank building right next door – quickly becoming one of local history’s most iconic landmarks – business leaders knew they needed something better than just another storefront! They came up with ideas about using space inside or outside their existing building but nothing worked out quite like they wanted so they started brainstorming some sorta development plan…sorta XD;; And then finally somebody got tired OF having nothing done ever again AND DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! They Built An Arena!!!

In 1905, Yakima led Puget Sound region as one of seven regions for regional planning by then-President Theodore Roosevelt under the National Planning Act. The act created four metropolitan areas: Tacoma–Bellevue–Yakima (Tacoma), Spokane–Anacortes–Everett (Spokane), Olympia–Salem (Olympia), and Chinooktown (Chinooktown). That same year, Yakima also became an incorporated city through an act of state legislature. During World War II, Yakima played a pivotal role as both an assembly point for military supplies and as a training ground for American soldiers fighting in Europe and Asia. After the war ended, many businesses were abandoned or closed due to lack of business opportunities; however, some companies such as Boeing continued to operate until 1971 when they merged with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co.. The community experienced rapid growth following Boeing's merger and development during the late 1960s into early 1970s with Interstate 5 being constructed through much of downtown including most residential areas east of US Omak Road which would form what are now known as Southcenter mall area with Safeway coming later on adjacent to Interstate 5 south center across from CenturyLink Field Stadium
