Woodinville is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,613 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and one of the largest cities in Washington. At that time there were no direct equivalents for many of these characters so they were converted into ASCII code using a software program originally written by Microsoft Research called Microsoft Alphabetic Encoding Tool (MATE). Woodinville has been home to several high-technology companies including Boeing Airplane Company (1921), Pacific Bell Telephone Company (1927), Oregon Health & Science University (1966), Hewlett-Packard Company (1967), Western Electric Company (1947) and Microsoft Corporation (1984). Homegrown technology companies have also included Sound Transit Group's Sound Transit 2 light rail line; Andersen Consulting; Grumman Aerospace Systems; Jacobs Engineering; Northwest Lumber & Supply Chain; Seattle Genetics Inc.; Allied Signal Corporation; Snohomish County Jail; and Mount Baker Resort since its opening in 1984. The city has remained largely unchanged since it began growing rapidly around 1900 when developers started buying up tracts of forested land south of downtown near present day Interstate 5 and Boeing Field east of I-5 where they planned to build large warehouses or industrial sites
