The Lantern Guild was founded in 1868 in Wenatchee to promote the sale of lanterns and lighted signs throughout the city. By 1895, there were over 100 Lantern Guild members in Wenatchee alone. The use of gun lights began to spread in Wenatchee around 1916 when the town’s first law enforcement officer, John Prentice became interested in using them for his duties as sheriff. At this time, gun lights were not commonly used on patrol because they were considered too dangerous to use while carrying a weapon. Prentice decided to purchase some early model gunlights and began using them as part of his patrols. soon after he started using them, people began to adopt them as their own personal security tool. Gun lights continued to be popular through the years and today are still used by local law enforcement officers all over the United States; however, due to their popularity among civilians it has also become increasingly difficult for these units to procure new equipment necessary for conducting effective patrols night-time shifts inside residences or other areas where they may not be able to rely on sound signals from car windows or headlights

The city was founded by Chief Joseph and his wife Sacagawea on April 24, 1851 as a trading post on the Wenatchee River. The name was chosen because it resembled "wet'n'ready," an English word meaning "to be ripe with fruit."
