Walla Walla is a city in the U.S. state of Washington, and the seat of Thurston County. The population was 382 at the 2010 census, down from 479 at the 2000 census. It is located on Puget Sound between Seattle and Olympia, Washington and is bordered by Mercer County to the south and east, King County to the north, and Pierce County to the west. Walla Walla has been inhabited for more than 3,000 years by Native Americans. In 1792 after Russian fur traders first explored Puget Sound region, they discovered what would become Walla Walla Valley; George Vancouver named it Columbia River after his home country Russia. The area was part of Chief Joseph's domain when he surrendered it to British Columbia in 1821 following a successful fight against U.S forces under General John Methven during Mexico-American War #1 (1846–48). The town site was platted in 1853 by Captain James Fenton as part of Treaty 7 with neighboring tribe Klamath Indians; land grants were made soon afterward including what is now downtown Walla Walla. The City Council voted on April 15, 1854 to adopt a new charter that granted voting rights to all male citizens over 21 years old who had resided within our limits for three months preceding election day (this definition included those living on Reservation lands). On November 5th 1860 members of local militia arrested eleven men who had gathered near present-day Pioneer Square for attempting to overthrow newly electedMayor John Pemberton through violence or political agitation (). After two days trial before an unknown jury convened outside of town hall proceedings ended with acquittal on all charges except one: conspiracy to resist arrest – which resulted in nine individuals being jailed without bail until their release on February 8th 1861 due to public outcry (). This event led Portlandian newspaper editor Philip Wigfall writing "Aided by its easy access into Puget Sound...wallah [Walla]Wallace has become an important seaport" (). In 1865 another treaty signed with tribes resulted in much land ceded westward including present-day downtown Walla Walls adjacent Toole Park dating back to 1851 when Fort Vancouver's Commander David Thompson purchased 6 acres from Chief Peter Withrow for $400 ($ today) .present day First Avenue runs perpendicular along this tract just south of Toole Park Cemetery . Colonel Elishaw Silliman served as Commandant at Fort Vancouver from 1865-1867 and recommended that military barracks be built thereon which eventually became Heceta Barracks & Marine Barracks Today’s wallah wallace features some beautiful stone buildings erected around 1900 known as Government House Place

In 1814, George Custer led an expedition against the Umatilla Indian Tribe near present-day Lewiston before his death during battle six months later. In 1818, John McLoughlin founded what is now Tacoma as a port on Puget Sound with help from General Puget who hoped to open up Northwest Passage for colonization by Europeans. After years of construction and land purchases by various entrepreneurs, Tacoma reached its current size in 1853 when Senators John Stevens (D) and Lorenzo Snow (R) opened up Tacoma Harbor to navigation from Lake Washington through Tollgate Strait between Elliott Bay and downtown Tacoma
