Walla Walla, Washington is a small city located in the northwestern corner of the United States. The city was founded on December 17, 1883, by J.D. Payne and James Fenton as a railroad town named for General George Armistead. The name “Walla Walla” is Native American for “place where the salmon run” and it was anglicized to Waalwilla in 1912. In 1865, John Wesley Powell discovered Mount Rainier and began exploring North America with his then-newfinds of rocks and valleys beyond what had been known before.
