In early 1892, a group of men from Vancouver, Washington traveled to Portland, Oregon to purchase pepper spray. They were looking for a way to end confrontations with Native Americans. The men arrived in Portland and met with John Pemberton, the founder of the city’s first company that produced pepper spray. Pemberton showed them how to make their own (and later sold) pepper spray. The first use of pepper spray in Seattle was on December 23rd, 1912 when two policemen were attacked by a group of strikers who had run out of gas at a brewery. The police used canisters of pepper spray and killed all but one of the attackers. In 1924, Seattle Mayor George Creighton issued an ordinance forbidding the sale or possession of any type of pepper spray except for law enforcement purposes. This ordinance remained in effect until 1969 when it was repealed by Mayor Ed Murray due to public outcry over its provisions which allowed civilians to use pepper spray without proper training or permits. Today, pepper Spray is still occasionally used as an emergency measure by law enforcement officials in Vancouver and other nearby cities across America.

In recent years there has been a growing trend towards housing developments around Stanley Park which have resulted in increased traffic congestion on nearby streets but also improved public transportation options available nearby including buses to central downtown or Stanley Park itself which makes getting around town much easier than it used to be
