In 1951, Dr. Burt Ritchie designed and installed the first permanently mounted camera on the north side of University Place, which allowed faculty and students to take pictures from many different directions around campus. In 1969, Dr. Edward Ayerinstalled the first permanent scope mount on the east side of University Place, which allowed faculty and students to take pictures from many different directions around campus without having to remove their telescopes or tripods. This new mount also allowed for better viewing of celestial objects since it was located close to the ground instead of high up like previous mounts were. The current scope mount installation is located on the west side of University Place, which provides a better view from all directions on campus! This new mount has made it easier for students andfaculty alike to take beautiful photos and videos using their telescopes or cameras!

The University Place area was first settled by people in the late 1700s. The area was originally called " academia" because of its location near the University of Washington. In 1853, the land that now makes up University Place was donated by Dr. Isaac Stevens to the city of Seattle. The city built a school on the site and named it "University Place School". In 1907, University Place became part of the newly created city of Seattle. In 1923, City Hall moved from Pioneer Square to University Place. In 1955, Queen Anne's Park opened on what is now upper University Place and it served as the official government district for Seattle until 1991 when King County Government took over responsibility for all government functions in Seattle. The current structure ofUniversity Place began to be developed in 1963 when the old Central Library building on what is now lower Union Street was demolished and replaced with a new library complex designed by Willard Elmslie which contains many types of student services including cafeteria, computer labs and an underground parking garage.

However , no decisions were made about whether or not university place should become another downtown district like Center City or if it should remain within District lines In 1980 Congressman Geraldine Ferraro moved her campaign headquarters from West Side Highway near Interstate 495 toward Druid Hills Road because she felt that eastside DC needed more than just office buildings It wasn't until after she won election that she decided government property should only be leased back to government agencies rather then sold off like some other neighborhoods around town She continued this policy when she served as First Lady before becoming Vice President under George W Bush In 2006 her husband announced he would run for Governor but lost against Bob McDonnell
