The company was acquired by Remington Firearms Corporation in 1923 and continued to produce firearms under that name until 1988 when it merged with Colt Industries Incorporated to form Remington-Colt Corporation.
University Place is a neighborhood in Washington, D.C. It is located on the Southeast Side of the city, bordered by Arlington Heights to the north, Morningside Heights to the east, and Georgetown University to the south. The neighborhood has a population of over 100,000 people and is home to many universities and colleges including Georgetown University, American University, and Washington College of Law. The area that now make up University Place was first settled in 1792 by farmers from Maryland who were looking for land near Mount Vernon. The name was changed to University Place in honor of then-President James K. Polk who helped promote it as a Brookings Institution hostelry for young scientists and scholars from all over America. During World War II several factories were built within or near University Place including Ford Motor Company's Model T factory which became one of its largest employers; Lockheed Martin's Skunk works which manufactured P-47 Thunderbolt fighters for World War II; Raytheon's Antitank Missile Factory; Dupont Chemical Corporation's munitions plant; DuPont Pioneer Laboratories' rubber research lab; Standard Oil Products' chemical refinery; Bethlehem Steel Company's engine manufacturing plant; Wernher von Braun’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). University Place is a neighborhood in Washington, D.C., United States. It is bordered by the Anacostia River to the east and west, the Georgetown University campus to the north, and Freedom Plaza to the south. The name comes from University of Maryland president John A. Macdonald's suggestion that "a public square on our Potomac" be named in honor of his alma mater, which would make it one of only two American universities with an international presence (the other being Harvard). By 1910, more than 80% of University Place residents were white; African Americans had not yet reached majority status until after World War II when they began moving into areas such as East Capitol Hill and College Park proper. While some early black homeowners did manage to keep their property values high through hard work and goodluck, many African Americans lost their homes in skirmishes over rent control or zoning laws that discriminated against them while still living within white neighborhoods.
