In 1938 UD acquired land adjoining Old Union Station on M streets NW which would become home to Graduate School of Business Administration-Washington Campus (later renamed George Mason Univ.-GMU). By 1960 there were over 1,000 students at GMU-WDC and more than 100 faculty members teaching business administration courses across three campuses including UMBC-Shaw Library Campus (now known as Marymount University)-and GWU-Lanier Hall Campus (later renamed George Washington Univ.). On October 15th 1960 UPI reported that construction was well under way on what would become today's Russell Senate Office Building - situated just steps away from then Vice President Spiro Agnew's home office on Pennsylvania Avenue NW - when he resigned his office effective November 20th following reports of presidential aides' misuse of funds during their campaign preparations for 1960 election season... After monthslong deliberations among House and Senate leaders convened at Governmental Headquarters downtown they voted unanimously late Sunday night November 25th to install an independent outside board empowered with subpoena power... On Friday December 2nd UPI learned that because contractors had not yet finished erecting most important components necessary for operations currently being run out OF THE STREETS ON MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE NEW YORK PLAZA high security video monitoring equipment had been installed without proper permits already four days earlier leaving many areas including much offending floor space unsecured potentially exposing scores or even hundreds also dozens or even scores if not hundreds additional undeclared rooms/cells making this large federal building vulnerable both physically AND electronically STUDENTS have since made loud protests against increasing security measures especially after being repeatedly promised private access All such activity will be monitored live 24/7 through video monitoring equipment present throughout building etc... This exercise underscores serious concerns about potential privacy violations should sensitive personal information be inadvertently revealed Video evidence has played key role in recent prosecutions involving government officials
