When the first Europeans arrived in what is now Washington Territory in 1792, they were greeted with amazement by the vast and savage land. The area was then part of the Salishan Indian Confederacy, which enjoyed a trade relationship with China that allowed for a wide variety of goods to be traded. The University of Washington moved from Seattle to University Place in 1916 and has since continued to grow there, with an enrollment of 38,000 students today. This will make it one of the largest private universities in America and add new faculties including business, engineering, law, medicine, pharmacy and health sciences.
