University Place is a census-designated place in the Seattle metropolitan area, United States. The population was 20,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue, Washington Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name University Place was first given to an area in what is now Bellevue on December 12, 1881 by charter from King County as a land grant to five students from what are now Yakima and Redmond counties. The original university site upon which it stands was located just east of Interstate 5 on then-Route 99 between Everett and Bellevue. In 1922, when Polytechnic High School moved to its present location nearby on Northeast 85th Street, University Place became their new school zone boundaries southwestern corner of campus divided along Line Road; this allowed for a single high school with overlapping enrollment for both redshirted freshmen and sophomores (later known as "service academies"), while also providing access to many post-secondary education options without having to cross I-5 or Line Road again. In 1970, when Western State College relocated south of I-5 across Lake Union from downtown Bellevue into an area adjacent to the Medical Center district boundary north of Safeco Field (then known as the Stadium District), University Place became their new educational neighborhood within Western State's boundaries instead of split among those colleges' campuses like earlier. In recent years Northwestern Mutual's main headquarters has been located there too and so it has come to be home not only to WSU but also other major employers such as Microsoft and Amazon Web Services among others; so much so that Lewiston Avenue NE becomes known locally simply as "Universitiestown" in reference thereto although Lewiston itself still operates under separate branding from WSU Campus Lodge Drive SE running concurrently through Eastern Washington University proper until reaching Kirkland Center where Northwestern Mutual anchors everything else once again including public transportation connections thereto). Today's buildings date back to the early 1990s – most notably the Mackintosh Building housing WSU Office of Marketing & Communications which opened in 1992 – making it one of Washington's longest continuously operating universities businesses alongside schools such as Seattle Central Community College and Evergreen Nazarene University*. *Actually Evergreen Nazarene had vacated its campus east off Highway 99 near Intersection Washtenaw Ave NTwyand Rd before UW law did too; however they continue operations out West in surrounding townhome developments leased by EWU*

University Place (formerly University Heights) is a neighborhood in the Washington, D.C., area. It was developed between 1907 and 1911 as part of the city's annexation of surrounding neighborhoods. The neighborhood features many notable landmarks, including the University of Maryland Medical School, which opened in 1907; the United States Coast Guard Station at Point Lookout; and Addison Park, one of the earliest planned community developments in Washington. In 1865, the University of Washington was founded and the area around it became known as University Place. TheUTHew York Times called University Place "a beautiful spot on which to set up a college." It did not take long for students and professors to make their presence felt. In 1870, the first building on University Place - now known as the Campus Martius - was erected. The following year saw the opening of the first dormitories on campus. By 1875, all but one of Washington's colleges had been founded and Universidad de Chile was also established in that year.
