University Place is a neighborhood in the city of Seattle, Washington. It is bordered by First Hill to the north and east, Capitol Hill to the south, and Fremont Street to the west. The population of University Place was 18,869 at the 2010 census[1]. The first people who lived in University Place were Seattle's first permanent settlers in 1853. They were farmers from upstate New York who arrived under contract with King George III as part of his land grant program. The area now known as University Place was originally called "Wenatchee", after Wenatchee Chief Cornet Josephsawa's home town onthe Columbia River. In 1857, when Congress passed an act authorizingSeattle's incorporation as a city, it included University Place within its boundaries. The name 'University Place' was chosen because it referred to both Seattle's prestigious universities – Columbian College and Washington University – and its location near what would later become downtown Tacoma (then part of Vancouver). The first school in University Place opened in 1859 as an academy for girls. By 1870 there were also male schools here: School #1 became Snohomish County Agricultural College in 1870; School #2 became Pacific Northwest Normal School in 1889; and School #3 became Puget Sound Teachers College (now Western Washington State Univ.) in 1907. In 1911, John Coster Winters donated land for what would become CenturyLink Field which then began construction that year. Over time more schools have been added to the neighborhood including Mount Rainier Community High School (opened 1959), Marymount Nazarene University (opened 1988), Evergreen State College (opened 1997), Occidental College (opened 2002) and Whitman-Walker Hospitality Academy (open 2009). Today many students attend community colleges or university campuses located nearby such as Seattle Pacific Medical Center or Western Washington State Univ., while others commute into downtown Seattle each day for work or education at other large urban centers such as Bellevue or Redmond. University Place has undergone many changes over time including becoming an increasingly diverse neighborhood during the 1960s through 1970s when increasing numbers of African American students moved into the area; however this trend reversed during the 1980s through 1990s when white flight began moving white residents out of town towards Pioneer Square/Seattle Center District; however this trend has recently resumed with a recent influx of Hispanics[3]. During 2006-2007 there was a total housing development called "Uppertown" which aimed to revitalize lower Downtown Seahawksburg which had fallen into disrepair following years of decline due to zoning changes made by Mayor Ed Murray[4]. This redevelopment project saw new construction along First Hill Road culminating with 202 high-rise apartment buildings designed by starchitect GSK + Associates LLC[5][6], although only 36 units were built due to opposition from neighbors who claimed they violated character limits set forth by City planners[7]. Overall Lowertown experienced mixed success with some parts becoming more vibrant than others despite having negative effects on surrounding neighborhoods such as Second Hill facing heavy gentrification [8][9] . There have been several efforts underway over recent years by various Neighborhood Associations working together dubbed "Neighborhood Collaborative Partnerships"[10], aimed at reversing these trends, but so far no results have been seen

After civilizations end, guns started to be developed in secret so that they could only be used by certain individuals or groups who had special permission from the government. Gun violence has continued to increase over time, particularly in areas where handguns are more popular than rifles or shotguns. In 2016 there were 27 states with laws that allows concealed carry without a permit without any background check which made it easier for people to possess handguns without having any restrictions placed on them (Lopez). This increased access to handguns has led to more shootings and fatalities due to accidents or crime occurrence rather than actual combat between gunmen and victims (Flamm). It should be noted that this increases the risk for innocent bystanders being caught in the crossfire as well which makes gun security even more important.

In 1968, another landmark event took place when Congress passed The Family Health Act Amendments (FHA) which provided health insurance benefits to millions of Americans who didn't have it at that time. From 1978-1986, University Place served as home to Georgetown’s School of Medicine before being relocated back into its original campus location within Georgetown City Limits in 1986 following completion of construction on what is now known as George Mason University Campus
The University of Washington was founded in 1861 by the state of Washington as the first university in the United States. The university purchased land on which it currently stands from a group of private individuals and erected its first building, the Regency Building, in 1872. In 1893, UW merged with Seattle University to form what is now known as Washington State University. In 1916, UW established its own School of Medicine and Dentistry and in 1928 acquired an extensive library system. In 1940, UW became a national leader in providing student services online through Campus Services Online (CSO). In 1961, UW merged with Seattle's Roosevelt College to form the Washington State University-Seattle School of Business. In 1992, WSU-Seattle opened its doors to students from all over the United States who had joined together to found Puget Sound Community college (PSCC). Finally, in 1998 WSU-Seattle became one of only two universities in Washington state (the other being Gonzaga University) that offered a graduate degree program at both schools.
