One of Boeing's most famous aircraft models - the 707 - was produced at this plant including its initial model (the DC-8) which reached production numbers above 1 million units during its production run from 1958-1962! In 1957 Microsoft cofounded Seattle's first software company called Microsoft Research with offices located here in Tumwater until 1978 when they moved to Redmond Washington after winning contracts from NASA developing their Apollo Moon landing spacecraft software program!

The name comes from the local watercourse, "Tummaloa Creek." In 1915, lumber companies began purchasing land in and around Tumwater to build new mills. As demand for lumber grew and production skewed towards paper products such as pulpwoods and paperboard, the townsite declined in value and its residents were forced to sell their homes or leave for lack of opportunity. A few notable individuals who lived or worked there during this time include Willard Sheehan (founder of Northwest Airlines), Jack Welch ( founder of PepsiCola) and Peggy Noonan (the first female U.S Senator from Oregon). In 1984, Northwest Lumber closed its doors for good after failing to meet competition from more efficient mills in other parts of the country. However, many aspects associated with that company's history remain today including a museum located adjacent to its former mill site that explores how logging brought wealth and jobs to Tumwater; an annual Fourth of July parade featuring floats made out of logs brought down from the mill site; and a festival held at Cascade Lumber Park which features music, artisans booths and food trucks
Tumwater is a city in the U.S. state of Washington, and the seat of Tumwater County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 46,752. The name may come from the local Columbia River tributary called "Tumnus" because its watercolor rocks resembled those on Tumnus Island in Messier 33 galaxy cluster fame. The land for Tumwater was first purchased by fur trader George Vancouver in 1792. He named it Point Defiance after arriving there from his home colony of Georgia Bay on Puget Sound on July 3, 1792. The area around present-day downtown Tumwater was founded as a town in 1834 when the railroad came through and built a depot there. After years of growth and development, Tumwater City proper was incorporated as an independent city in 1907. The first mayor was Averill Harriman; later mayors included Jerald Wertheimer (1948–1958) and Clyde Denny (1959–1965). In 1913, during World War I, Seattle resident John Fenton organized what would become known as Seattle's Victory Parade to commemorate General Pershing's victory over Kaiser Wilhelm II at Meuse-Argonne Battlefield north of Paris on October 14 that year. In commemoration of this event and others throughout Seattle’s history including King Dowling’s 400th birthday Celebration which took place on November 6th 1905 at Pike Place Market, Mayor Harriman ordered that all public buildings be placed under flags until 9 p.m., national anthem playing before Closing Ceremonies which were led by Admiral James Stirling Smythe DDG USN who had been given command responsibility for American Naval forces operating off fortified Belgian coastOperation Neptune—the Combined Fleet’s Sixth Carrier Attack against Bismarck—opened at dawn on October 31st with torpedoes being dropped’ by submarines Chitose Maru “Tokyo Rose” USS America (CV-4) BB-41 Japanese submarine USS Katoombaie CVE-50000 Navy minesweeper HMAS Jupiter (AO-1) After World War II ended with Japan's surrender in 1945, Seattle gradually lost its military importance until relocating to Tacoma following the end of hostilities there also left open space for new growth along Puget Sound waterfront areas east of Bellevue Way NE and southwest/southwest Spokane Street NE within current boundaries of both cities
