Other early residents include Judge Harry Hargrave (1887-1964), Mrs. Caryl Churchill Schmitt (1893-1975), Mrs. Lillian Sayers Crane (1901-1998), Edward Sayers (1907-1980), Harold Jorgensen (1913-) and his son Harald Jorgensen Jr.(1920-) The highest peak in town is Mount Olympus which reaches an elevation of 4,851 feet above sea level

Tumwater is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,604 at the 2010 census. Situated on the Snake River between Seattle and Tacoma, it is an important trade center for both cities. Tumwater's economy is based largely on commerce and industry. The first European to visit Tumwater was Juan de Fuca in 1592 while exploring Puget Sound. The area that now makes up Tumwater was originally inhabited by the Duwamish people; they were forced out of their land by the British in 1853. In 1857, Johncapoma Indian Land Grant #2 was made to local farmers who would work off their acreage with hands-on farming untilafa (Washington) became a state in 1889. In 1862, Russian fur trader Pavel Fedorov established a small post near present-day Tumwater Falls before moving his family back upstream to Chelan County in 1865 when gold was discovered along the Snake River valley floor. On July 4th 1870, US Army Captain H C Kearney arrived at Discovery Bay about 25 miles east of present day Olympia and named it Fort George after General George Armstrong Custer who had been killed two years earlier during the American Civil War at Bull Run Bridge near Manassas Junction Maryland In 1897, a group of businessmen from Seattle formed what is now known as Washington State Ferries Corporation to build ferry service from Lake Union on Seattle's waterfront to Tacoma across the river and then downriver to Olympia Although initially successful due to its low fares and fast boats service between these two locations, WSFYC found itself embroiled in several controversies including allegations of financial irregularities and political patronage which led it into receivership in 1951 In 1957 WSFYC merged with predecessor Washington State Ferry Company which continued operations until 1968 when it too went bankrupt . At this point Spokane-based Northern Pacific Railway took over operation under new management until 1978 when it too reached bankruptcy . today Amtrak operates bus service from downtown Seattle running via Pioneer Square towards Federal Way then continuing southwards past Occidental Park before terminating at SeaTac Airport
The town of Tumwater, Washington was founded in 1847 by Captain John C. Fremont and his wife Elizabeth Whitman. The town was named after the Wisconsin River which flows through it. The first settler in Tumwater was George H. Simpson whose home is still standing today.
