The city of Tukwila, Washington is a small town located in the state of Washington. The population was 5,836 at the 2000 census. In 2007, Tukwila was named one of the "Most livable cities" in America by Forbes magazine. It is part of King County and has a humid continental climate with mild winters and hot summers. The natural resources that make up this city include oil and gas reserves as well as forests, minerals, water supplies, and agriculture. Tukwila began as a Native American village on the current site of the city in 1856. The area that now makes up Tukwila was first settled by settlers from Canada in 1878. By 1907, most of what is today Tukwila had been established. At the time, it was one of the smallest villages in King County with only a dozen residents. However, over time it grew into an important agricultural center for eastern King County with its own flour mill and cotton gin. Today’s downtown district started to come into existence during the late 1800s when farmers around here realized they could no longer grow crops on their land or purchase them from neighboring farms directly due to newemphasis on railroads connecting Seattle with Portland and other parts of Oregon and California through Tacoma (now Tacoma). They needed somewhere to store their produce so they built warehouses along First Avenue South between Union Street and White River Road which became known as “The Warehouse District." In 1907 pickers working for Seattle-based seed company Western Seed Company moved into an old brick warehouse at 9th Ave SW & S Olive Way NW known as “the Big Bottle House." This building served until 1925 when it burned down after being used as storage for sugar beet straw from nearby firkins while Westernseed were still processing beets there! This event also marked an important turning point for downtown development; until then all activity took place off First Avenue South near Union Street where transportation options were limited or nonexistent (and crime rates high). After this fire many businesses set up shop inside courtyards or along alleyways leading out to Interstate 5 where they could enjoy low crime rates while remaining hidden from view outside business hours
