Tukwila is a small town in the Kitsap County area of Washington State. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Tukwila is known for its holster industry and holster maker, J.B. Simplot Armory, which has been family-owned and operated since 1906. The production of handguns began in earnest in Tukwila after World War I when American soldiers brought over holsters from Europe to help them carry firearms on their battlefields. The first holsters made were designed by John Banton of Tacoma and patented in 1922. The popularity of handguns led to the development of holster companies during the 1930s and 1940s; many of these became families-owned businesses that continue to produce quality pistols today. During World War II, Holster Manufacturing Company (HMC) produced military pistols for United States Forces Europe (USAFE). HMC's primary focus was producing combat shotguns but they also produced pistol holsters for troops. In 1944, JB Simplot Armory was founded as a manufacturer of combat pistols only; it would later become a producer of revolvers as well. In 1951, JB Simplot purchased Holster Manufacturing Company which continued to produce quality pistols until 1992 when it merged with Browning Arms Corporation to form Browning/Simplot Firearms Incorporated (BSF). BSF produces revolvers only while also continuing to produce handgun holsters under various brand names including Colt Holster Co., GlockHolster USA, Sig Sauer Holster Division & SafarilandUSA among others; this continues today as Browning/Simplot Firearms Northwest LLC."

Tukwila, Washington is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 12,521 at the 2010 census. The name "Tukwila" is an Alaskan word meaning "the place where the salmon spawn." Tukwila was first settled by people from Russia in 1853 and named after the Russian river Tumen. The early residents of Tukwila were farmers and fishermen. They built a logging operation on the now-defunct Eagle Creek Railroad between 1909 and 1912 to supply logs for Fort Lewis. This led to the town's nickname of "The Logging Capital of America." From 1916 until its incorporation as a city in 1959, Tukwila functioned as a agricultural center with large tracts of land devoted to fruit production and cattle raising. In 1957, local entrepreneurs founded Northwest Airlines and began passenger service to Seattle; this created new industries in Fordsville (now part of Seattle) and elsewhere in Kitsap County. With its growing economy came rapidly increasing population density which led to problems such as water shortages, social unrest, pollution from heavy industry, traffic congestion, housing affordability issues and conflicts over zoning restrictions. In response to these problems, Mayor Don Neuman initiated conservation measures including creating green space around town; developing more affordable housing; promoting carpooling/bike commuting; establishing public transportation options;and initiating initiatives like energy efficiency retrofits for homes and businesses. These tactics have led to steady growth since Mayor Neuman took office in 2009 – now Tukwila has reached 11% annualized population growth rate! Today’s mayor continues these policies while also working towards removing obstacles that have stood in the way of progress such as extreme poverty or lack of access to basic services downtown.
