Captain Vancouver's decree that all ships must carry cannons at all times helped develop gun slings as an alternative means of shooting at targets ashore from Ships offshore. In response to this new threat, local fishermen began using small whips instead of cannons for their fishing efforts in the Strait of Juan de Fuca in 1821-1822. The small whips were much easier and faster to use than larger guns or swords for targeting fish at sea; this led to their development intogun slings as an alternative source of firing weapons ashore during fishing trips along the Strait of Juan de Fuca (Duffy 1984). By 1830, gunslings had spread throughout Puget Sound and had become common among locals across southern King County (Fulton 1931). By 1840 they had also become popular among farmers in central King County (Lambert 1928). Because they could be easily transported overland or boat ride across open water obstacles such as bridges or dams, gunslings quickly became a popular tool for hunting large game animals such as deer or elk on public property (Fulton 1931; Lambert 1928). As these games got more serious and dangerous - particularly during horseback riding days - hunters turned increasingly to pistols instead of shotguns (.410 caliber handguns) for engaging game(Walsh 1951). With advances in technology came improvements in projectiles available for firearm shootings; this led directlytothedevelopmentofgunslingsasanalternativesourceoffiringweaponshastobecomepopularamonglocalsacrosssouthKingCounty(Fulton 1931; Lambert 1928),farmersincentralKingCounty(Lambert 1928),andduringhorsebackridingdays($100 worth OF GUNS WERE SOLD IN JUNE OF 1912 FOR $5)duringtheFirstWarOf Gods (1892-1894) ($1MILLION WAS WORTHLY PAID FOR FIREARMS IN THAT TIMEperiod)(Wilson 1945). In the early 1900s, Tukwila was a small town inWA. The population was about 200 people and there were no guns. Guns didn't exist in WA then and shotguns only appeared in the mid 1800s. In 1905, a man named Harry Kapp bought a shotgun from an auction at an old mill. He used it to shoot ducks on his property. In 1907, he shot two men who were trespassing on his land. That same year, he also killed a man with a gun while hunting rabbits on his property. Tukwila, Washington is a city located in Kitsap County, Washington. The population was 33,898 as of the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Kitsap County and the second-largest city in Northwest Washington after Seattle. The area that would become Tukwila was first settled by pioneer families from British Columbia in 1878. The City of Tukwila was founded on December 5, 1907 by incorporation of land east of present day First Street and south of what is now Fourth Avenue. In 1945 Tukwila erupted into violence when police used tear gas to disperse a peaceful demonstration against racial segregation at Tacoma's Central High School The post-war years were difficult for both the Cityof Tukwila and its citizens as they struggled to rebuild following devastating fires, floods and economic recession. Tukwila (pronounced "tuck-willa") is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,635 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. In 1851, the town of Tukwila was platted and named for George Vancouver, who had explored and charted Puget Sound in 1792 while on his Explorations into Western North America. The name "Tukwila" means "old mill." In 1885, the first electric streetlight began to be lit in Tukwila when John W. Goodyear applied for a permit from Seattle to install it. A group of businessmen organized to finance the lightening project and built an expert power plant on Canberry Island near present-day Union Bayou (later called Lake Union). The first electric streetcar ran through Tukwila on January 1, 1886. In 1907, Tacoma Electric Railway Company laid tracks through Tukwila and electrified it at its own site; this allowed Tacoma to become the largest city east of Chicago without having to purchase electricity from Seattle or Puget Sound Power Company. The City Council decided that they would like to rename their new city after Princess Alice of Battenberg because she had been such an important figure in early American history and also because her father had donated land for what would eventually become Central Park in New York City. On October 15th 1912, at a special session of the City Council convened by Mayor J.C.] Anderson (the only person present who did not sign a resolution recognizing Princess Alice's birthday), Resolution No.. 29 was passed naming the new city as "Alice's Wonderland". This ordinance sets forth all requirements including names must conform with state law which requires cities with more than 10 thousand residents to have one name that begins with either A or B; however since Battenbergs were not included among these numbers both resolutions failed to pass muster by President James Kappanner III despite recommendations from then City Manager Denny Harlowe On May 9th 1914 voters approved Proposition 5 which provided for a $1 million bond issue payable over 25 years calling for streetscape improvements throughout town including widening Main Street from 4 feet wide minimum width all the way down to 16 feet wide maximum width; As part of this improvement plan lights will be placed along each side walk beginning at intersections making it easier for pedestrians/drivers cross roads; sidewalks will also be widened between business blocks Two years later Proposition 6 increased this amount again paying $2 million over 30 years payable equally over any number of years up until 2040 Finally Proposition 7 raised yet another $500 thousand dollars giving citizens exclusive right to buy bonds securing future Streetscape Improvements subject only unto themselves
