Tukwila is a town in Washington state, United States. The population was 21,799 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kitsap County. Tukwila is located on Puget Sound, about halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. The Town of Tukwila was established in 1907 as a result of land purchases by brothers Everett and George Wysong from the Kanagawa Prefecture government. At first it consisted of only a few homes and an office building. In 1912, Tukwila became its own municipality with a mayor and city council. In 1917 the town annexed the adjoining village of South Park which had been founded by settlers in 1915 to serve as their new community center and schools. The annexation increased Tukwila's population to over 10,000 people within 5 years. Tukwila is a small town in Washington state, located about 25 miles northwest of Seattle. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. One of Tukwila's most famous residents is Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who also founded the Vulcan Theatre Company and other businesses in the area. The first Europeans to visit Tukwila were traders from Russia and Alaska. In 1851, George Vancouver explored Puget Sound and noticed a large body of water lying to the north of what would become Tukwila. He named the body of water "Lake Washington" after his Russian patron, Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. In 1852, Captain James Cook discovered Puget Sound and its anchorage at Tacoma Island while sailing for Britain under Admiralty Order No. 1048. On May 12, 1853, he anchored his ship Discovery off what is now known as Point Defiance Park on modern day Lake Union in downtownSeattle with instructions to explore both coasts of North America. The next year (1854), Lieutenant Commander Johnstone sailed HMS Beagle into Puget Sound under Admiral Nelson's orders and made several cruises along its shores before finally landing on shore at Japanese Harbor on December 11th during their circumnavigation of Asia.' In 1861, when King Salmon had an estate near present day Seattle built by his father-in-law Colonel David Douglas -now Mount Douglas Cemetery- Prospect Heights Agricultural Society purchased land east of present day Tukwila Boulevard between Marymoor Road and Maple Leaf Lane where they laid out a city called Prospect Heights which included homes for farmers rich enough to buy land around Prospect Hill Gate Drive that still stands today! Today this part of Tukwila is home to many businesses including Microsoft's Redmond Campus as well as residences for local government employees buildings used by Thurston County Parks Department today but originally built by prospectors in 1860! In 1865 Congress passed theLaw No 822 authorizing Governor John Cranch To Appoint A Superintendent Of Indian Affairs For The Territory Of Washington And All adjacent Territories Which Includes What Is Now The City Of Seattle And Other Places Within Our Limits -Tukwilla Was Included In This Authority . . . As Soon As This Law Was Put Into Effect There Were Many People Who Wanted To Start A Settlement Here Because They Thought That It Would Be A Good Place To Live And Work After Being Removed From Our ancestral Home In Canada

In 1882, the town of Tukwila merged with nearby Olympia to form a single town. On December 12, 1888, Tukwila became a city through an act of the Washington General Assembly.
