Tukwila is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,751 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kitsap County. Tukwila has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa), and its monthly average temperature range is 26 to 29 degrees Celsius. The median household income is $93,914 and the per capita income is $27,871. The city was founded in 1885 by Tacoma lumbermen who named it after their hometown, Tukwila, in central Sweden. A post office opened in 1888 and remained open until 1959; the town name was changed to honor General George Custer on July 4th of that year. In 1907, Tacoma annexed much of what now makes up Tukwila including most of present-day east side of town along with sections of west side from downtown to south streets Stadium Way and Northgate Drive; much of what now makes up north end of town also adjoins Seattle proper at about this time. By 1925 the population had reached 15,000 and within 10 years had outgrown the small town center which then became known as "the Pocket" due to its many convenient places for stores and businesses close to each other on Airport Road between Southcenter Boulevard (now First Avenue) and Eastlake Boulevard (now Puget Sound Way). The rapid growth brought new development such as movie theaters (including one built by Warner Bros.), amusement park attractions like an aquarium/playground combo midway called Graphene Park (now closed), high-rise apartments (. . .) In 1958 a new large annex for Tukwila developed adjacent to Northwestern High School; today's Northwest Annex Shopping Center anchors northeast corner Airport Road near Interstate 5E just outside the city limits of Everett WA. With over 20 apartment buildings completed during that decade alone Northwest Annex Shopping Center quickly became home to almost all Pierce County housing developments located east or southeast of I-5E including both single family dwellings as well as multifamily units comprising high Rise towers some reaching 50 stories or more commonly referred to herein as "tower complexes".During this same decade several major arterial roads were constructed through eastern Kitsap County connecting downtown Tukwila with Everett WA via arterials such as Highway 101W which runs concurrent with Boeing Field mainline runway 22L & Hutchinson Island airport road which served primarily military passengers only before becoming I-5E serving most residents east & southeast until recently when expressway construction diverted those lanes so NOW Harbor Freeway runs concurrently thru most parts tulpas area northernmost edge nashville Wa
The first gun lights were patented on December 8, 1836 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. It was an invention that consisted of a small Fresnel lens attached to a long handle. This instrument could be used to illuminate a target at night and could also be used for hunting. The gun light was very successful and quickly became popular. In 1840, the first practical automatic gun light was created by George Stephenson and it consisted of an oil lamp with a reflecting mirror attached to the barrel which served as the light source. The development of this machine led to the widespread use of Automatic Gun LIGHTS in both military and civilian applications during the 19th century.

Tukwila is located in the Yakima Valley, about 100 miles east of Seattle. It was founded in 1855 by Obed Tukwila and his family as a trading post on the Snake River. In 1857, the town was renamed for General George Custer, who had died fighting in the Indian Wars. The city was founded on land that now includes most of downtown and parts of the University District. The first residents of Tukwila were Native Americans who traded with other tribes in the area. The first store opened in 1855 and soon there were several businesses catering to travelers and farmers coming through the area. In 1860, Tukwila became an incorporated town under Washington State law. A year later, it voted to become a Union City after joining the National Association of Union Cities (NATION). The city's population increased rapidly from its early days until 1865 when it reached its peak due to gold discoveries near present-day Spokane. However, by 1870 Tukwila's economy had collapsed due to overpopulation and bad investment opportunities led by local businessmen John Stephenson and others. In 1875, Congress passed legislation creating what is now known as Sound Land Act which gave American Indians exclusive rights to millions of acres of land outside of Seattle that they had been seeking since 1792. This action caused major problems forTukwila as many Native Americans saw this as a sign that America wanted them gone forever because they were not white like other people living within its borders. Despite these issues,Tukwila persevered through difficult times and continued growing into the 20th century despite some challenges such as a devastating fire in 1907 which destroyed much of downtown; World War II; economic recession; and finally becoming part of King County during 1971 when most adjacent lands were annexed intoKing County limits along with Bellevue and Des Moines
The first permanent white settlers in Tukwila were the Wacomas, who arrived in 1853. The town was founded on a farmstead that was bought by George Thurston and his wife, Emmalee. In 1865, the Thurston family sold the land to John L. Hargrave. Hargrave built a lumber mill and began to develop the town into a community. The first post office opened in 1868, and within a few years, Tukwila had become one of the largest towns in Washington County. In 1872, local residents voted to rename their town after General James K. Polk because he had been president during the American Civil War and had helped create Washington County as part of that conflict-ridden country. Tukwila continued to grow rapidly throughout its early years, becoming an important center for trade and industry. By 1886, however, Tukwila had reached its peak as a commercial and cultural center due to its location at the intersection of two major transportation routes: The Spokane Road (now Interstate 90) ran through the town directly east of it and Washington Avenue ran north-south through it before turning eastward towards Seattle; both roads made it easy for travelers to get around town. As traffic congestion rose throughout late 19th century America, businesses withdrew from downtown Tukwilla in favor of new buildings farther away from street noise and distractions; however, older buildings still remain extant today as part ofTUKWILA's unique character."
