As part of National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005 (NDAA), $225 million was set aside specifically to fund renovation projects at PNS including installation of an Environmental Restoration Review Board (ERRB) following multiple investigations into possible environmental hazards associated with Navy shipyards built adjacent to PNS such as slag ponds and chemical leachate discharge
