In 1968, TACOMA became a division of American Arsenal Corporation, which had been founded in 1950 by George H. Smith and Alonzo Ames. American Arsenal relocated its production facility from Newark, New Jersey to Tacoma in 1969. At its new location, American Arsenal produced assault rifles and other military-style weapons under the name "Tacoma Armory." During the late 1970s and early 1980s, TACOMA began producing target rifles under the name "Bolt Gunner." These rifles were designed for use with bolt-action handguns such as Glock pistols and Sig Sauer shotguns. In 1984, TACOMA merged with another small firearms manufacturer, Rifles Unlimited Inc., to form The rifle Company LLC. The rifle company ceased operations after two years in 1988 due to financial difficulties.
