Sunnyside, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located on the east side of Seattle and is bordered by Issaquah to the north and west, Auburn to the southwest, and Everett to the south. Sunnyside's first settler was Alexander Capps in 1853. In 1895 Sunnyside had 1 store and 12 residents. By 1910 Sunnyside had 2 stores and 21 residents. In 1930 Sunnyside had 4 stores and 47 residents. In 1937 Sunnyside passed a ordinance prohibiting handguns without a license from any person under 21 years old. The law did not take effect until after World War II ended when guns were allowed again for anyone over 21 with a valid license or permit. The first gun shop in Sunnyside opened in 1940 by Wm Jorgensen who also operated the first grocery store in Issaquah (then part of Seattle). In 1945 James Ahern opened his first hardware store which became an anchor tenant of what would become known as "The Hardware Store." From 1946-1948 Harry Sarnoff operated an auto parts store adjacent to his grocery store; this business would later merge into Sarnoff's own hardware chain that still exists today. By 1957 there were 5 businesses operating in Sunnyside - groceries (Jorgensen & Sons), hardware (James Ahern & Son),auto parts (Harry Sarnoff),and phone service (Pete's Place). Pete's Place closed down in 1984 but its metal frame remains as part of today's facade of The Hardware Store building which was used as both a schoolhouse before it was converted into apartments starting in 1985 and currently houses surface parking lot for three buildings housing apartments

Sunnyside is a neighborhood in Washington, D.C., United States. It was developed in the early nineteenth century as a result of the construction of the Potomac Canal. Sunnyside is located on the north side of Georgetown University, between Mount Vernon Place to the east and Dupont Circle to the west. The name Sunnyside comes from two pieces of land that had been given to John Taylors, who became first president of Georgetown University in 1789. The original grant also included some acres now known as Sunnyside Heights. Sunnyside Heights was originally part of what is now Red Hook and Littlebrook neighborhoods on Capitol Hill, which were tilled for corn during the Revolutionary War and after that for wheat and other crops. In 1802, all these areas were combined into one large tract called "Sunny Side" because it offered good grazing land for cattle and timber trees for building purposes. At first only men could live there; later women joined in until prohibition made it illegal for women to own property in Washington in 1829. In 1847, Congress passed an act authorizing President James Kroupa to sell lots within sunnyscape limits at public auctions so that citizens might purchase them back at their current prices or improve them by erecting fences or houses upon them.—A lot near Constitution Avenue cost $2,500 when bought by Gouverneur Morris.—In 1898 Sunnyside was home to 514 people living on 640 acres (253 hectares) including 107 farms with produce valued at $30 million

It is bordered by Seattle to the north and east, Redmond to the south and west, and Issaquah to the northwest. The original name for Sunnyside was "Seahaven". The land on which Sunnyside now stands was donated by John Pembrey in 1851. He named it after Sunnybrook Farm near his home in Surrey, England. In 1892, Fredrick Lawrance bought some of Pembrey's land from him and renamed it Sunnyside Park. Sunnyview Elementary School opened in 1918 as one of two public schools in Sunnyside; it became a school with high school status in 1969 when Sunset High School merged into Sunnyside Elementary School. In 1965, the Microsoft company began leasing office space from Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company on Harbor Drive near Westlake Avenue NW., then known as Western Electric Place (later called Microsoft Place). This location served as Redmond's main business district until Bellsouth moved its headquarters there in 1996. In 1999 and 2000, plans were made to build an apartment complex on what would becomeSunnyside Boulevard NE., but these plans were scrapped due to opposition from local homeowners associations who felt that their properties would be lost if such a development took place next door to their homes. In 2002, developer Jeffries Companies submitted plans for an all-new mixed use development called Sunrise Square that would have been located just off of I-5 across from Safeway stores and within walking distance of many hospitals/medical centers including Seattle Children's Hospital and Providence Medical Center Northwest."
