It was a shot from an old artillery piece used by the US military to fire burning projectiles over enemy positions. The projectile was pulled back by a string and let loose over the heads of the combatants.
Sunnyside is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Puyallup– Kent city-county seat. Sunnyside lies on the east side ofSR-5 south of US-26 and north of SR-206 which runs along its border. Sunnyside's name is derived from a word meaning "bright sun." The first settler in what became Sunnyside was James Denton in 1878. He named his farm "Sunny Side" after he saw a bright sun during his walk to work one day. By 1902, Sunnyside had an post office and two churches - First Methodist and Swedish Lutheran - as well as a school and family grocery store. The community experienced rapid growth following World War II when military bases were established there such as Naval Station Kitsap (now Joint Base Kitsap), Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (now Naval Air Station Everett) and Marine Corps Base Lewisfield (now Joint Base Lewisville). In 2000, Sunnyside had 1,433 residents; by 2006 it had grown to 2,872 with most growth coming due to annexation of nearby communities such as West Valley City and Arlington Heights. In recent years there has been significant development around the intersection of SR-5 and North Capitol Way including a new elementary school, soccer practice fields for both boys and girls teams, an auto dealership/gas station/cafeteria complex known as "The Mill", Multi-purpose Center Park completed in 2013 which includes an observation deck overlooking downtown Puyallup, as well as retail space developments such as Amazon LLC's second headquarters project announced in November 2018. According to the United States Census Bureau, Sunnyside has a total area of , all land. As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 2,872 people residing in Sunnyside Village: 1% Hispanic or Latino*, 3% African American or Black*, 0% Native American* *Includes those who reported more than one race

Sunnyside is a census-designated place in Seattle County, Washington, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located on the east side of Lake Washington and borders Redmond to the south and North Bend to the north. The first Europeans to visit Sunnyside were Capt. James Cook in 1792 and his party of three ships from New Zealand who mapped Puget Sound and Strait of Juan de Fuca before sailing back home. Captain Cook named both lakes after him – Sunnyside for "day" or "sun" (not meaning "side"), but also Side Rock for a headland overlooking Puget Sound. In 1824, Swedish settler Lars Olson built a log cabin on the site of today's Sunnyside Elementary School which he naming Svenska huset (Swedish House). In 1827, John Wesley founded Methodism here and created an small church that still stands today. In 1851, George Stephenson built part of what is now Seattle on land that he bought near where Sunnyside now stands. He founded The Seattle Times here in 1852 as one of the earliest newspapers in America and later moved it to its current location on First Avenue South in 1886 In 1870, Wm Henson established what became known as Pacific Electric Railway Company tracks along NE 26th Street between Ballard Avenue Northeast and NE 74th Street Northeast while NW 54th Street was being constructed west of present day Husky Stadium across First Ave SE from Wallingford Heights . That year also saw incorporation by Swedes of Tacoma into King County with same name then called Rappeport Township until 1907 when it changed again to Sunnyside after world war I German refugees began arriving there including many Woodworth brothers who had come over as soldiers during WWI
