When Sunnyside, Washington was founded in 1911, its founders intended it to be a "gun-free zone." The town's incorporation prohibited the carrying of firearms and required all citizens to possess one or more shotguns according to state law at that time. Gun owners were allowed to bring their weapons into the town but must leave them outside the property boundaries. In 1933, Sunnyside repealed its prohibition on firearms and voted in favor of an ordinance which read "No person shall carry any pistol, revolver or other shot gun within the limits of this city." In 1975, Sunnyside passed an ordinance which read "No person shall carry any rifle or shotgun west of Sunrise Boulevard." This ordinance remained in effect until 2003 when it was repealed by then Mayor Norma Jablonski. The repeal of this ordinance is credited with contributing to the rise in crime rates that occurred throughout the early 2000s in Sunnyside. In fact, between 2001 and 2002 there were a total of 18 shootings within 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) of Sunnyside Elementary School alone!

Sunnyside is located on the eastern border of King County and includes part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Sunnyside's ZIP code 98115 refers to its combined statistical area including both the city of Seattle and its suburbs. The name Sunnyside comes from an Indian word meaning "happy valley." It was first given to a small town on Bainbridge Island when missionaries set up a school there in 1868. The name stuck and was used for other places in the same general vicinity such as Sunnyside Heights, which lies just south of Sunnyside proper on Bainbridge Island; and finally, Sunnyside Center on SeaTac Airport grounds across from Boeing Field. The community first sprang up around two large auto dealerships operated by Harry Heifetz and Max Weisman: Heifetz's Auto Sales Company (later Heifetz Corporation) opened in 1936, while Weisman's Wigwam Motors Incorporated opened in 1938. In 1945, Wigwam became Heifetz Corporation again but changed its name to Tacoma Tire & Rubber Co., then American Tire & Rubber Corp., before becoming American Tires & Rubber Co. still today (though it has since been acquired by Michelin). In 1967, he wife Nancie Dragna founded their own dance company called Nancie Dragna Dance Productions—the first ACD company ever created outside of North America. This business grew rapidly into an established major player within the community with several shows per year at local venues until disbanded due to lack of financial stability in 2001; however production continued online through various web streamers until 2006 when they permanently closed down all operations due to health concerns brought about by participating in high-intensity dancing practices leading to overuse injuries sustained during classes/ events etc.). On September 14, 2017, the NRA released a video targeting Starbucks for their "political correctness" policies. The video begins with the statement "Starbucks is promoting political correctness at its coffee shops." The NRA then proceeds to show how Starbucks has been caught violating many of the same firearms laws as other stores. They start by criticizing the company for not allowing gun owners to carry their firearms inside their stores. They also point out that Starbucks has been caught discriminating against different types of customers based on their race or religion. Finally, they demand that Starbucks end its political correctness policies and allow gun owners to openly carry their firearms in all of its stores.
Sunnyside is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located on the east side of Seattle and forms part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. It takes its name from nearby Sunnyside Heights and Sunnyside Park. Sunnyside first appeared on maps in 1853 as "Sunside", after a small mountain peak that overlooked the town. In 1872, when King County was organized, Sunnyside became part of what was then called North Seattle Township. The townsite remained attached to North Seattle until it was annexed by Tacoma in 1907. At that time, Tacoma had a population of over 100,000 people and Sunnyside's population only numbered around 30 residents; however, it soon became an important commercial center for Tacoma with its large sawmill and lumber yards. In 1911, while still within North Seattle Township, Sunnyside incorporated as a village under the name "Sunnyside". The incorporation passed through several stages before becoming finalized on December 1st of that year; at this point Sunnyside boasted a population of just 12 residents. However, due to increasing development around town - including more than 50 stores and businesses - Sunnyside's population rapidly grew throughout World War I and into the 1920s reaching 150 by 1925 according to USGS estimates. A rapid industrial expansion led to social unrest in early 1920s; although there were some peaceful protests against factory pollution (the so-called Pinkerton Scare), violence did occur frequently between strikers and management employees alike during this time period Cleveland Callahan reports: "The most serious disturbances which have taken place here have been connected with labor disputes." The growth in industry also caused increased traffic congestion which began to be addressed beginning in 1924 with the construction of State Route 99W (later renamed Interstate 5). This interstate highway would eventually connect Puget Sound withSeattle making SunnysIDE even more important as a transportation hub for both citiesʼ growing economies. However despite these positive developments locals continued to face social problems such as joblessness and poor housing conditions; one report from 1926 described Sunnyside as being "a very unhealthy community" due to high levels of crime rates coupled with lack of clean water supplies Downtown & near schools [1]. Despite these challenges local officials continue working hard towards creating self-sufficient communities throughout the years culminating in their efforts leading up to incorporation into KING COUNTY back in 1951[2]. Today there are also many businesses operating out of Sunnisides Mall which has recently undergone renovation & expansion making it one stop shop for shopping & dining options alike!
