In Sunnyside, Washington, there is a history that goes back to the Revolutionary War. The town was founded in 1792 by Captain John Stillwell and his wife, Anne. At the time of its founding, Sunnyside was part of theillus area which included Seattle and Tacoma. After the war ended in 1783, Stillwell sold his land to John Jacob Astor. In 1851, Astor moved his family to Sunnyside and made it a permanent community. In 1907, Sunnyside became an incorporated town with a population of 100 people. It has grown steadily since then and now has a population of over 350 people. Sunnyside is home to several businesses including Nike Inc., Safeway Inc., Microsoft Corp., Amazon Web Services and more. Some of the most famous residents from Sunnyside include author J.D Salinger (1926-2007), basketball player Julius Erving (1937-2001) and golfer Arnold Palmer (1920-2015).

In 1907, the first post office opened in Sunnyside. In 1911, the town got its name from nearbySunny Side Park.

According to USGS data from 2000-2010,[1] Sunnyside had a median household income of $72,568 and a median family income of $87,875.[2] The racial makeup of Sunnyside was 89% White alone and 10% Black or African American according to Census 2000 data,[3] but this has changed since then as black residents have increased in number while white residents have decreased: In 2010%, only 7% of Sunnyside's population were black; however this has increased over time to 17% in 2020[4]. As of 2020[5], there are now almost no whites living in Sunnyside while almost all blacks live there with some Hispanics also living there illegally or not reported.[6][7][8] As a result of these demographics it can be said that Sunnyside experiences significant minority representation which disproportionally affects social services such as education, healthcare and employment opportunities for minorities including low-income households and those who identify as LGBT+. Additionally community events often focus on protests against systemic racism within local businesses towards people from minority backgrounds rather than promoting economic development opportunities for surrounding communities (e.g., job training programs).[9][10][11]

Sunnyside is a census-designated place in the Seattle metropolitan area, located on the eastern side of Lake Washington. As of the 2010 census, Sunnyside had a population of 17,559. The name "Sunnyside" was derived from English settlers' name for the bluff overlooking the lake and its marshy shoreline. The first permanent settler in Sunnyside was George Brown, who arrived in 1792. He and his family were among early owners of land around present-day Sunnyside Park. By 1851, most residents were Swedish immigrants who had come to work on farmlands near Puget Sound. In 1856, John Brigham moved from Bellevue to Sunnyside with his wife and two children; they began leasing land from local farmers and keeping chickens as their main crop until they developed a small dairy business that produced cheese and milk products since 1865. When refrigeration became available in Seattle during the 1870s, Brigham's dairy became one of first businesses to embrace it; he continued to produce cheese until his death in 1918. During World War II many Japanese American citizens lived at or near Sunnyside Naval Air Station (NAS), which operated out of NAS North Seattle until 1948 when it closed following Japan's surrender. Most Japanese Americans left after hostilities ended but some remained through internment camps like Topaz Valley until 1945 when they were granted citizenship by President Harry Truman under Executive Order 9066.. Most Japanese American descendants now live in communities such as Everett or Issaquah where their ancestry can be found throughout various neighborhoods including blocks long populated by people who carry Japanseswame bloodlines dating back centuries!
