Spokane, Washington is a city of over 100,000 residents located in the eastern third of Spokane County,Washington. It is the county seat and largest city of Spokane County. The population was estimated to be 208,433 as of 2010. In addition to its direct economic impact on the surrounding rural areas, Spokane also plays a significant role in federally funded research at the University of Washington & Microsoft Research locations in Redmond and Seattle. The history of optical accessories begins with a single store called The Optical Shop in downtown Spokane from 1897-1911. The shop was created by contractor Edward Pillsbury for his father-in-law Harry Wolkowsky to sell lenses and other optical equipment for use by McGee's Glassesmiths business which he had started in 1895. In 1911, Wolkowsky sold his interest in McGee's Glassesmiths to Harry Snyder who continued to run it as an individual enterprise until 1924 when it became part of the Western Electric Corporation. Western Electric Corporation was founded in 1903 by George Westinghouse Gaylord and soon became one of America's leading electrical companies with operations throughout North America including landlines (later Bell Atlantic) and wires (later Teledyne). In 1925, Western Electric Corporation merged with American Telephone and Telegraph Company forming AT&T Corporation which would later become Time Warner Entertainment Incorporated. At first glance, it may seem that there has been little change since 1907 when The Optical Shop opened its doors; however, during those years major technological advances were taking place such as photography through film technology which led to increased demand for lens products both from consumers and manufacturers alike. Additionally, World War I disrupted business activity within telephone companies so that lens sales dried up; however this did not stop distributors from continuing production or marketing new lenses until 1919 when they resumed operations under the name "Spokane Lenses" followed by "WESTERN ELECTRONICS INC." During these years local entrepreneurs picked up where their predecessors had left off manufacturing optics products primarily focusing on scientific instruments such as photographic cameras but also making medical supplies such as spectacles and contact lenses etcetera none of which could have been possible without prior experience printing labels or advertising directly to consumers via newspapers or posters

During World War II, it became one of the most heavily bombed cities in America due to its proximity to Pearl Harbor. However, despite this damage, Riverside Drive – which runs through downtown – remains one of Spokane's most important thoroughfares today.
