Ammunition history in Spokane, Washington began with the development of artillery in the late 1800s. The first cannons were built in 1892 by Captain John A. Macdonald and Lieutenant Commander George Armstrong Custer during the Buffalo Soldiers Campaign against Native Americans. The first shots fired from American cannons were on October 15, 1892, during the Battle of Cable Street. In 1898, Spokane residents organized a militia to fight Spanish forces invading their city. They called themselves "The Spanish War Veterans." Ammunition was limited at that time so militias had to purchase their own rounds of ammunition from local stores. In 1907, Chief Justice Harry Blackmun delivered the majority decision in United States v. Miller (3-0). Spokane, Washington is a city in the U.S. state of Washington on the Spokane River. The population was 109,824 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Spokane County and home to the University of Washington and numerous other businesses and cultural institutions. The site where Spokane now stands was first occupied by tribes of Moccasin hunters in what is now eastern Washington. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Spokane County was made by Captain James Cook when he explored Northwest America in 1792 during his final voyage of exploration for Britain. He named the area he discovered "New Caledonia" after King George III of Great Britain, who had given him permission to do so. After Captain Cook's visit, traders from Russia and China started arriving in what is now Spokane City, trading goods such as beads, beaver tails, flour, lumber, meat and potatoes for landlocked Native American artifacts they found along the way. In 1847, Indian traders led by Chief Joseph were expelled from their treaty lands east of present-day Spokane Falls by United States troops under General Custer during an unsuccessful attempt to capture them; this event helped spur development around present-day downtown Spokane City. In 1854–55 miners discovered gold near Red Hill Creek on Snake Hill Top about southeast of today's downtown Spokane; this discovery led to a rapid growth in mining activity throughout eastern Washington due to new discoveries including gold at nearby Toneta Lake in 1865 and silver at several sites around central Idaho before it became known nationally as "the Klondike Goldfields". By 1870 most alluvial goldmining had ended; however some older mines continued until 1893 when they closed because high levels of arsenic were encountered there while trying to extract coal gas from shale rocks that lay below the surface; these old mines are located northeast of downtown on abandoned railroad beds which have been filled with culvert water since then. By 1900 purple orchids were being grown near modern day Eastern Market Street (now phoenix avenue) where a stream flowing out from Union Station used to cross South Main Street (now 8th Avenue). This stream was also called "The Dalles" because pioneer David Dall designed a dam across it just south of present-day Eastern Market Street between 1851 and 1857 which created its current name: shortly thereafter Wm Henson donated land east side of town along 8th Ave for educational purposes only – not for development – creating donation square today known as Henson Park which has been designated as a national historic district according to landmark designation program administered by US National Park Service . Development began soon after this but little occurred until 1907 when Spokesman John Muir arrived with his wife Clara Fenton Muir who ran muir bank north side 6th St & E Superior Ave & pretty much everything else happened afterwards related mostlyto school construction projects

In 1863, Spokane hosted the first United States Congress in Washington state. The city's nickname is "The City of Spokes."
