The revolver was used as a protection weapon against Indians in the area. In 1886, Captain Hebert acquired a repeating rifle from Wm Fenton of Seattle. Captain Hebert used his rifle to help suppress Native American uprising in the region. In 1889, Captain Hebert purchased a shotgun from Aiken & Company of Bellevue, Washington. Captain Hebert used his shotgun to shoot at animals that had invaded his property. In 1896, Major Hargrave donated two pistols to Spokane Valley for use by local law enforcement officers. The handguns were converted to automatic fire by Gifford Pinchot who became superintendent of public instruction in 1901. Automatic gunfire began being used as self-defense weapons on October 1st 1903 when Sheriff J Murray Purchase adopted an automatic pistol which he called "Spokane". On July 13th 1905, SheriffPurchase issued an order forbidding citizens from using autos with barrels less than eighteen inches long unless they had a license from City Hall which was not given until 1911 On May 6th 1912 Mayor Harry Laughlin issues an ordinance allowing citizens to carry concealed firearms without having any permits or special training if they are accompanied by one or more state peace officers who have received advance notice through mail order . This amendment is known as "Laughlin Amendment No 2" From 1907 until 1917 there was no Registration Division within the County Attorney's Office; each individual sheriff prosecuted cases individually . Felony prosecutions ceased on January 1st 1917 due to administrative changes within Departmental leadership . During this time frame several new self-defense weaponry designs emerged including: lever action shotguns (1910s), revolvers (1912s), autoloading pistols (1915s), Colt revolvers (.38 Special) and semi-automatic pistols (.45 ACP). In 1901–1902 construction began on what would become one of North America's largest dams – Spokes Dam – which became one of its most famous landmarks. After years of planning and construction, it was completed in 1935 and allowed for irrigation agriculture to take hold within what is now Spokane Valley proper. The dam also helped create Lake Mead which provides drinking water for Phoenix and Tucson as well as many other cities downstream; it also created jobs across all aspects of engineering while damaging riverbanks behind it along with contributing to climate change today! Today much of downtown Spokane remains unaffected by development however some parts have seen increased traffic due to growth near Interstate 5A (the SR 99 freeway).

Spokane Valley was founded in 1876 by the Spokane, Washington Company. The company purchased land in what is now Spokane Valley from the Yakima people. In 1878, the company built a sawmill on the confluence of the Spokane and Columbia Rivers. The mill continued to operate until it was destroyed by a fire in 1903. The mill site is now used for industrial purposes. In 1907, Spokane Valley became part of Seattle County. In 1916, Seattle County merged with King County to form Puget Sound County. In 1978, Puget Sound County lost its autonomy and became an area of Washington State known as the countyhood area of Spokane Valley.
