Spokane Valley is a small town in Spokane County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It lies on the north bank of the Spokane River, about east of Wenatchee and south of Mount Rainier. The area now known as Spokane Valley had been inhabited by the Lenape people for centuries before European contact. The first white person to live in what is now Spokane Valley was James Watts in 1847. The name "Spokane" was given to the valley by Major General George Armstrong Custer during his battle with Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors near the present-day town of Cheney on 24 October 1876. During World War II, many aircraft were built at nearby Boeing Field including B-29s and B-36s for American forces fighting in Europe. After the war ended in 1945, most of these buildings were demolished and replaced by new ones; however a few remnants remain today including a Boeing factory building which housed parts for both bombers and helicopters used during Operation Neptune's Spear (the Vietnam War). Later that same year, Spokane County became part of Washington State following statehood within the United States on 3 November 1959. At this time, much of eastern Spokane County became rural land while portions west of Interstate 90 became urban areas such as downtown Spokane and northern Ward 5 (which includes modern day Bellevue). In 1984, after years of debate over whether or not to make it an incorporated city,[1] Spokan City was platted adjacent to downtown Bellevue and named after then-mayor Dan Spokan.[2] As more development occurred around town center – primarily residential – spokanValley lost some commercial districts towards downtown Bellevue but preserved its agricultural base.[3] In 2002 when Mayor Dan Spokan resigned due to health concerns,[4] City Council voted 6–1 to unincorporate into Bellevue effective 1 January 2003[5]) Although no formal annexation has taken place yet, it is widely expected that incorporation will occur soon as most residents want their own city government with its own Police Department and zoning regulations like those enjoyed by municipalities in other western US cities such as Portland OR or Seattle WA.. currently there are efforts underway by local officials to gain annexation from Snohomish County who have threatened legal action if they become successful[6].

Spokane Valley is the largest city in the Spokane County, Washington metropolitan area. The population of Spokane Valley was 2,951 at the 2010 census. The valley is located on the south bank of the Spokane River, east of Seattle and west of Tacoma. The first Europeans to visit what is now Spokane Valley were traders and missionaries who traveled through the region in search of land for religious reasons. They found that many Native Americans lived here as well, so they began trading with them and establishing relationships with them. In 1855, some Mormon settlers from Utah arrived in what is now Spokane Valley and started a new community called Cottonwood City. This settlement was short-lived because it was quickly abandoned due to Indian violence. In 1861, wagon trains carrying goods brought overland from Fort Hall were attacked by Sioux Indians near present-day North Bend. The attackers killed all but one settler and burned down most of Cottonwood City before escaping back into Indian Territory. By 1864, only a few buildings remained standing in town although there were still people living thereabouts. In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry unit stopped at an encampment near present-day North Bend when their journey across western Canada became Legs Creek Canyon Ranger District boundaries which changed following his victory over Ulysses S Grant's army at Bull Run (1848). Afterward, many soldiers off duty drank heavily at this encampment which caused problems for future ranger districts such as this one because alcohol had not been legalized yet in much of America! In 1886, small groups of farmers named Spalding bought 640 acres (24 hectares) northeast ofpresent day Southgate from Chief Joseph Standing Rock Sioux tribe for $10 per acre ($136 / km2). They developed this land into today’s Spokane Valley by planting corn, wheat and other crops that would support domesticated animals such as horses and cows along with later tilling fields to create fertile soils that wouldlater provide lumber for homes and businesses in today’s cityscape while also providing clean water to residents through wells drilled underground since ancient times! It wasn't until 1915 when King County made claims on behalfof local citizens on adjacent parcels including those within present day Spokane Valley for a new county seat which led tothe founding of downtown Spokane by early 1900s Mayor Jacob Riis whose building still stands today on First Avenue NE corner Third Street! Today's vibrant downtown complex includes three blocks long First Ave NW between East Seventh St & East Eighth St., two blocks long Second Ave NW between West Main St & West Sixth St., four blocks long Third Ave NW between Pine Street NE & Central Avenue NE - plus several smaller buildings scattered throughout downtown comprising various business types including banks (First National Bank), restaurants (Moses Lake Diners Ltd.), retailers (Empire Hardware), social services agencies (Catholic Charities/Humanitarian Services Northwest), real estate agents (!SPOKANE VALLEY REAL ESTATE AGENTS INC.)...all making room for more than 12 million people who call downtown home! Downtown has come far since its humble beginnings – witness its recent resurgence with major investments like light rail service starting up right behind First Ave SW - making it easier than ever before get around town without having to hike or bike!

The town grew rapidly and by 1861 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1862 the Central Pacific Railway arrived in Spokane and began construction of its line through the area.
