Spokane Valley is a small town in the Spokane Valley metropolitan area, located about 25 miles east of Spokane, Washington. The population was 14,895 at the 2010 census. They built a log cabin and named it "Atchison." In 1868 an act of Congress designated Spokane Valley as part of Provo Township in Butte County, Utah Territory. The first post office was established there in 1870. In 1896, when Oregon became a state, it included all of what is now eastern Washington and parts of Idaho and Montana. Territorial boundaries changed again in 1907 when butte county was divided into Snohomish and Yakima counties. In 1912 the towns of Cheney and Okanogan were organized from portions of Butte county and merged into Spokane Valley; Cheney continued to be known as "Cheney" until 1935 when it reverted back to its original name. When World War II began efforts were made by many local businesses to get involved with production for military purposes; among these are: Wacoal Rubber Company (now Goodyear Tire & Rubber), Boeing Aircraft Factory No. 4 (later Lockheed Martin Aeronautics) Plant No., Central Leather Works (later JBL), McCormick & Company Meat Market No., American Canning Company No., Western Electric Manufacturing Corporation's Radio Research Laboratories Branch (later GE). Although not directly related to war production however this led indirectly to many wartime innovations including: development of radar technology; creation or improvement thereof; employment technologies such as flameThrowers and welding torches; early use of jet aircraft engines while still being powered by piston engines

Spokesman-Review Publishing Company was founded here in 1907 by John Hance and George Hearn as an alternative to newspapers printed out in Chicago. Other businesses such as Wernher von Braun's Rocketdyne Laboratories were also established here during this time period. In 1916, Spokane Falls became one of the first communities in the United States to be built with electricity supplied by hydroelectric power plants operated by Western Electric Corporation. This new technology helped spur development around Spokane Valley into what it is today - an extremely diverse community with many different cultural traditions and experiences within its borders!
