The hammers produced by Winchester were much better quality than those made by other manufacturers and quickly became known as “Winchester Hammers” amonggunsmiths across America. The popularity of handguns led to continued demand for hammers made from brass or iron. However, despite this demandhammer production began to decline in Spokane Valley around 1930 due to advancements in plastic manufacturing techniques which made it easier and faster to make hammers without breaking them down into individual parts.Hammer production eventually resumed in Spokane Valley around 1940 thanks to an agreement between Winchester and local steel manufacturer Stanislaus Arms Company which allowed for continuous hammer production at Stanislaus Arms plant until 1945 when World War II ended combat operations at that location.

The first permanent residents of Spokane Valley were white fur traders from Russia and Alaska who founded Fort Hall in 1811. They did not stay long, as their supplies ran low and they realized that a better place to live could be found downriver by the Snake River. In 1814, Captain George Vancouver explored and mapped what is now Spokane Valley when he led an expedition up the river forts Snake Point and Mission Ridge. In 1825, Kamloops Post Office was established at what is now Kamloops Street in downtown Spokane; this became its official name on November 5, 1827. By 1840, there were over 50 post offices in the Northwest Territory and only six remained after Oregon became a state in 1846. The early growth of Spokane Valley was due to timber harvesting: logging began on land that would become all of today's city of Spokane Falls (now Allensburg) in 1854 and continued until 1865 when mills closed because of prohibition by Congress which had been passed as part of the Intolerable Acts Act 1798 (popularly known as Mackenzie’s War). Later development came from farming: rice production began near present-day Downtown Spokane in 1907; apples were grown around present-day Eastern Washington University from 1911 until 1914; wheat production started near Eastern Washington University again in 1941–1942; potatoes began being produced just north of Eastern Washington University between 1951 and 1957; celery began being grown east of Pacific Ave., south of Main St., east side between Greenwood Rd./Mt Pleasant Rd./Eastern Ave., north side between Mt Pleasant Rd./Eastern Ave./Greenwood Rd., west side between Greenwood Rd./Mt Pleasant Rd./Eastern Ave., southeast corner near Boren Park/Washoe Lake beginning about 1960s In recent years much attention has been given to building projects including two large malls – one on Interstate 90 (the former site of Inter-Alaska Pipeline Company) northwest across from Downtown Spokane Falls mall which opened late last year Many restaurants also operate within walking distance such as Pizza Hut (), Subway (), Chinese takeout ($) etc... . There are many parks located throughout town including Masonic Temple Park (), Spencer Park (), Golden Eagle Archery Arena (.9 miles ENE), Chinook Hills Golf Course (.9 miles SSE), Spring Creek Open Space (.6 miles WNW), Meridian View Mall (). Many businesses have closed or moved away but some still remain such as Sears () although it will soon close its doors for good after many years open presence hereabouts
The Spokane Valley was first settled by the Lower Columbia Plateau Indians in the late 1700s. The area now known as Spokane Valley was part of the Northwest Territory until 1846, when it became part of Mexico. In 1847, the United States acquired the territory and renamed it Washington Territory. In 1861, Washington Territorial Legislature passed a bill to create a county in Spokane Valley, and on July 1, 1861, Spokane County was created.
