The CDP has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[10] of 2000, there were 1,569 people, 533 households, and 317 families residing in Shoreline. The population density was 953.4 people per square mile (369.9/km²). There were 605 housing units at an average density of 459.3 per square mile (197.7/km²). The racial makeup of Shoreline was 98% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2%of the population. There are 533 households out of which 25% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32% were non-families. 24%of all households were made up of individuals and 11% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older

Shoreline is a town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. It is the only incorporated community in Thurston County and it lies on the eastern edge of the Olympic Peninsula. The population was 4,898 at the 2000 census. Shoreline was founded by settlers from southern Oregon in 1883 as a small military post on Puget Sound's east coast. In 1889, it became a town when Seattle annexed Thurston County and Shoreline became its first municipality. The townsite had been surveyed by Captain George Haggerty of Portland, who named it after his homeshore village of Southport on Vancouver Island. By 1905, however, most of what is now Shoreline had been developed as agriculture or lumbering around Puget Sound Naval Base which added to the population growth rate. In 1916, Washington statehood was granted to Thurston County and Shoreline became one of its first communities; it would remain so until 1959 when it lost its separate status as an incorporated municipality due to annexation by Seattle. On July 1st 1990, Shoreline attained city-status with voters passing a referendum approving incorporation intoSeattle; this occurred just two years after Seattle's merger with King County which included much of Tacoma
