Optical equipment and supplies were available for purchase as well as rental. By 1964, there were three optical stores in Shoreline - one on Fourth Street and two on Lake Union Boulevard. The growth of Optical Store #1 led to the opening of Optical Store #2 on Mercer Island in 1978. These stores served the needs of both local residents and tourists alike. In 1984, Optical Store #3 opened on Elliott Bay with a wide variety of optics including telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, light boxes, and more. In 1991, Optical Supply Company closed its doors after over fifty years in business - leaving behind an archive of optic-related items that will continue to be stored at this location until it is removed by Congress or another agency prohibited from possessing such material
Shoreline is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 1,193 at the 2000 census. It is located on Puget Sound and includes the communities of Northshore, Southshore, and Eastshore. Shoreline is located on Puget Sound between Seattle and Olympia. It is bordered by Issaquah to the south, Duwamish to the west, Lakewood to the north, and Shoreline to the east. The town takes its name from a sound made by shoals of sockeye salmon as they migrate upstream around Puget Sound during their annual migration. The first permanent settler in Shoreline was John Elder who platted what would become Shoreline in 1851. He named it after his homeport of Liverpool in England where he had been born two years earlier. Prior to him there were only scattered Indian villages near shorelines along Puget Sound that seasonal fishermen used for fishing grounds until white settlement began expanding into these areas in earnest around 1800-1850s. In 1861 Reverend Jno Haggerty established a Lutheran church in Northshore which quickly became one of the most important settlements on Orcas Island due to its location close to both Tacoma and Seattle. In 1872 Norwegian immigrant Ole Hansen founded Southshore which soon developed into one of Sounders largest industries - crabbing and fishing along Puget Sound's majorcavers system - until remote offshore oil drilling disrupted this industry beginning in the early 1970s when development occurred nearer shorelines across Kitsap County (the current neighbor of King County). Shoreline is a town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Olympic Peninsula and is within the Seattle metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Thurston County were fur traders from Siberia who set up trading posts along Puget Sound in the early 1800s. In 1853, land around present-day Shoreline was granted to John C. Fremont by Governor Stevens of Washington Territory on terms that allowed him to establish a military post there should hostilities occur with China over ownership of certain tracts of land located near Olympia and Wenatchee. The Post Office was established at Shoreline in 1854, and residents began voting on incorporation as a town in 1857. In 1865, King George III granted Philo Dickenson title to 6 square miles (15 km²) of land east ofshore at Point Defiance for an agricultural college; this university would later become UW–Seattle. shoreline's name may be derived from an Indian word meaning "headland."
