These include: Pioneer Park Elementary School District #2 which serves students grades K-8; Olympic Barber Shop which opened in 1906; Asphalt & Rubber Company which manufactured asphalt until 1971; Jeffries Seafood restaurant which opened in 1984; Stinson Beach Marina where you can find both boaters and fishermen; Stevens Point Lighthouse which served as a Coast Guard station from 1881 to 1958; and Northshore United Methodist Church which was built between 1915 and 1916.
In the 1860s, the Puget Sound region was a sparsely populated area with few natural resources. But entrepreneurs started developing new land in the Puget Sound area and soon began to realize that there was great potential for business in this region. The first commercial establishment in what is now Shoreline was a mill on the Strait of Juan de Fuca in 1871. By 1898, businesses had sprung up all along the shoreline, and by 1913, there were over 50 businesses operating in Shoreline. The early years of Shoreline's development were difficult due to lack of infrastructure and access to resources. However, as more people moved into the area and new businesses came online, things began to improve. In 1923, construction began on what is now the Olympic Boulevard Bridge which connected Shoreline with Olympia. This bridge greatly increased traffic flow and helped spur development along Olympic Boulevard throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Today, Shoreline is one of Washtenaw County's most vibrant communities with an intense maritime culture that has preserved many of its old buildings and facilities dating back to pioneer days. The community also enjoys excellent public transportation options thanks to both King County Metro Transit (KCM) and WAVE-TV's light rail system.
