During World War II, Coast Guard personnel used various types of choketers on their weapons to prevent them from firing during wartime blackout periods when radioactivity levels made shooting impossible. After World War II ended, many new types of choketers were developed for shotguns and rifle stocks (e.g., centerfire), but none became common enough to supplant traditional muzzleloader chokes in Shoreline gunfire history.

In addition, environmental degradation caused by overfishing has exacerbated this issue; as a result of these issues, many businesses have closed down or relocated their operations since the early 21st century. Despite this current state of affairs, there are still pockets of community vitality throughout Puget Sound area; these pockets often reflect elements of traditional fishing and agriculture practices that remain unchanged centuries after they were first used in those regions. For example, subsistence fishermen continuecatch shellfish off Shoreline Peninsula while small farmers grow vegetables near Hutchins Beach State Park; both activities produce local income that supports infrastructure needs such as roads and public schools
The first European to visit the area now called Shoreline was Juan de Fuca in 1792. The first people to live here were the Puyallup tribe.
