That year, a group of men from the town founded the Shoreline Rifle and Pistol Club, which met at the local schoolhouse. The club began shooting targets out of a nearby wooded area and soon developed into a real shooting society. In 1886, the club organized its first competitive event, which was won by George Waring. From then on, shotguns were allowed to be used in Shoreline Rifle and Pistol Association matches. In 1914, the club merged with the neighboring Bellevue Rifle and Pistol Club to form Bellevue-Shoreline Gun Clubs Incorporated (BGC). In 1925, BGC changed its name to Shoreline Rifle and Pistol Club Incorporated (SRPC) after merging with two other rifle and pistol clubs in Puget Sound: King’s Arms Armory Ltd. (KA) and Seattle Arsenal Ammunition Company (SEA). At that time SRPC had over fifty members; however, it continued to operate as an umbrella organization for all three clubs until 1959 when it became an independent nonprofit corporation under the leadership of Johnnie Logue. Since 1962 SRPC has been hosting annual SHORLINE GUN FESTIVAL where unique handguns are exhibited by participants from around America along with demonstrations by NRA shooters from around Washington state. The festival features several stages throughout downtown Shoreline where attendees can buy tickets or listen to speakers discuss current firearm related topics as well as take part in gun range sessions and more! Shoreline is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The community began as an agricultural settlement on the site of present-day Shoreline after gold was discovered near present day Olympia in 1855. The name "Shoreline" originated from the sound made by waves when they crashed against shorelines. In 1906, a group of fishermen and farmers founded what would become Shoreline High School; which still uses that name to this day. In 1962, parts of Shoreline were annexed by SeaTac Airport as part of a land swap with nearby Tacoma for land east of I-5 that had been used for military purposes since World War II. This created new neighborhoods within what had once been rural Kitsap County: Northshore (now Federal Way), Southshore (now Sammamish), and Eastshore (now Burien). All three areas retain their names to this day despite having no connection to each other historically or geographically. As more people moved into Shoreline over time, there was pressure on its social services and infrastructure; which led to development along Route 99W known as "the promenade." This stretch of roadway became home to many small businesses and cafes before it was replaced by an expressway in the early 2000s and now forms much of the eastern border of Shoreline proper. However, despite this decline in popularity, many businesses have continued to thrive along Route 99W thanks to its close proximity to Interstate 5 and easy access to MARTA service southward. Shoreline is a city on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington state. The population was 11,824 at the 2010 census, up from 10,521 in 2000. It is the county seat of Kitsap County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Shoreline were fishermen who used local resources for food and shelter during their seasonal migrations along Puget Sound. There was no permanent town or village founded until 1854 when merchants John Butterfield and James Phipson erected a log courthouse onshore at what is now Quilcene Park. In 1855–56, members of Congress explored Puget Sound looking for land that could be developed as a port for American exports because of its potential oil reserves. They chose shorelines near present-day Seattle and Tacoma because those locations would provide access to maritime traffic with easy access to seashorefront shipping lanes. In 1861, when America became involved in World War I, Allied forces landed at Sammamish Bay on Orcas Island (now part of Everett) in order to establish airfields there due to advances in wireless technology being made by German scientists at nearby Boeing Airplane Company facilities. The towns quickly sprang up around these installations; one such community was Seward Point which developed into an anchorage where supplies could be unloaded while warships took dockyard leave during World War II; also located nearby were Lighthouse Point (later renamed Harborview) and Wharf Point (later renamed Northport).
