On July 1st 2020., Shoreline will be bifurcated into 2 separate towns due to growth within SeaTac Airport caused by high occupancy rates from businesses located there such as Boeing& notably Amazon & Microsofts Redmond campus becoming an even greater burden on land use adjacent to both airports making it difficult for one municipality to contain development without impacting neighboring communities situated within SeaTac Municipal limits

Shoreline is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 709 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Shoreline is located on Puget Sound and extends into Thurston County. The first people to live in what is now Shoreline were the Nisqually tribe and others who came here after Dutch traders established a fur trading post in 1699 near present-day Tacoma. The first permanent settler was Timothy Pickering, who arrived in 1786 from England as an American trader with the Russian Fur Company. In 1854,shoreline became a separate town when it gained municipal status from Olympia. In 1892, city fathers voted to annex land south of Interstate 5 between Commercial Street and Natural Bridge Boulevard because they saw it as an opportunity to build more housing and improve water quality for residents living along Puget Sound. The annexation created a new community of over 6,000 people called South Lake Union within 2 years of its creation. In 1971, King County decided that shorelines should have their own elected officials so that they could better representation on local issues such as development proposals and zoning changes affecting them directly or through effecting appeal decisions made by county supervisors elsewhere in the county (the approach still applies today). So voters approved referendum Measure M which granted shorelines voting rights on all major local issues – including development proposals – with no limitations whatsoever on how much wealth might be invested within them (this last clause caused some controversy due to concerns about how well third party developers would be able to invest if they didn’t have access to these zoning changes). Since then, Shoreline has become one of the most vibrant communities in King County with thriving businesses and exciting cultural opportunities available right next door!
The first people to inhabit the area now known as Shoreline were Native Americans. In 1853, Washington Territorial Legislature passed a resolution recognizing the land east of Puget Sound as part of the state and authorizing a survey to determine its extent. The survey was conducted by Captain George Vancouver, who named what is now Shoreline after himself. In 1865, Congress created King's Island in Puget Sound as a military post for troops stationed there during the American Civil War. The island served as an artillery range until 1898, when it was abandoned and used for agriculture. In 1915, the Seattle–Tacoma Waterway was completed linking Seattle with Tacoma and following from Lake Washington to Puget Sound. As a result of this project, Shoreline became accessible from all directions. In 1949, construction began on Evergreen Beach State Park on the shore of Snohomish County near present-day North Bend. This park is home to one of Olympia's most popular beaches and is also notable for its history – it was the first state park inWA to be established in that manner.
